Itinerary
Day 1
Begin in Luxor with early pickup, drive north through the Nile Valley to Abydos to visit the Temple of Seti I, then continue to Dendera for the Temple of Hathor. Return to Luxor in the afternoon/early evening.
Hotel or meeting-point pickup in Luxor
Morning pickup from your hotel or a mutually agreed meeting point in Luxor. Brief orientation with your private Egyptologist and driver before departure.
Tips from local experts:
- Confirm exact pickup point and time with the operator the evening before; have your hotel name visible for the driver.
- Keep passport or ID accessible for site entrances; a photocopy is sufficient for most checkpoints.
- Wear light layers in the morning (cooler early hours) and keep a small bag with water and medication handy.
Drive from Luxor to Abydos (transfer)
Scenic drive north through the Nile Valley toward Abydos. Vehicle is air-conditioned with a qualified driver. Short comfort stops arranged en route if required.
Tips from local experts:
- Expect seatbelt use and regular short stops for comfort; request extra breaks if needed.
- If you are prone to motion sickness, take medication before departure and sit in the front of the vehicle.
- Keep sunglasses and a hat accessible — sun intensity increases as the day warms.
Visit: Temple of Seti I (Abydos)
Guided visit to the Temple of Seti I with your private Egyptologist. Explore reliefs, colored decoration remnants and the Abydos King List. Walks are on uneven ancient stone floors and short steps may be required.
Tips from local experts:
- Wear sturdy, flat shoes for uneven stone surfaces and short steps; canes are helpful but watch for thresholds.
- Carry a refillable water bottle (not provided) and wear a sun hat; shaded seating is limited at the site.
- Ask the guide for quieter, step-reduced routes through the complex if mobility is a concern.
Transfer: Drive from Abydos to Dendera (with short rest break)
Drive east/northeast to the Dendera area. A short rest stop or light refreshments break can be taken on arrival in Dendera (meals not included).
Tips from local experts:
- Expect a planned short rest stop on arrival in Dendera for restroom use and light refreshments (own expense).
- If you need seated rest on arrival, notify the guide so the driver can stop at a suitable sheltered spot.
- Keep any essential medication or comfort items in your day bag for quick access during transfer.
Visit: Temple of Hathor (Dendera)
Guided exploration of the Dendera Temple complex, focused on the Temple of Hathor. See decorated ceilings, reliefs, and rooftop areas where accessible. The Dendera Zodiac itself is no longer on-site but discussed by the guide.
Tips from local experts:
- Expect uneven floors and low doorways in some chambers; move slowly and use handrails where provided.
- Bring a light scarf or cover-up for sun protection on exposed rooftop sections; seating is limited.
- If you prefer to avoid stairs to rooftop areas, tell your guide — there are ground-level routes that still showcase major features.
Return drive to Luxor (transfer)
Drive back south to Luxor after completing the Dendera visit. Arrive in Luxor in the late afternoon or early evening.
Tips from local experts:
- Expect the vehicle to stop once or twice for restroom/stretch breaks; use these opportunities to avoid discomfort on the final leg.
- Store any purchases or souvenirs securely in the vehicle during the drive back.
- Notify the guide of your preferred drop-off point in Luxor (hotel or central meeting point) before leaving Dendera.
