Glacier Lagoon (Jökulsárlón) & South Iceland Tour
The Glacier lagoon, Jökulsárlón, and it's surrounding glacial wonderland is truly one of a kind and certainly not to be missed. The Glacier Lagoon is a stunning force of nature which is fed with icebergs from one of the the offsprings of the largest ice caps in Iceland, Vatnajökull. Part of the scenery is the black basalt iceberg decorated Diamond beach. As the ice breaks away from the melting glacier it drifts through the lagoon and towards the ocean which creates a very unique landscape that is constantly moving and shifting. We will also make time during the drive to visit well selected places on the south coast including the stunning Fjallsárlón Glacier Lagoon (bonus stop if time allows), the hidden gem Stjórnarfoss waterfall, the mysterious Seljalandsfoss waterfall that you can walk behind and the charming Vík village with it's black sand beach and majestic Reynisdrangar seastacks. Being located in the south east some 380 km from the capital, The Glacier Lagoon tour is our longest day tour (14 hrs) but most certainly worth the drive.
Rome: Colosseum Underground and Arena Tour Small group
Your VIP Colosseum underground tour begins with the Hypogeum. The Hypogeum is a suggestive place, with narrow corridors and large blocks of travertine, where gladiators waited for the moment of glory. As you wander deep into its dungeons, you will almost hear the air resonate with their fierce battle cries, and the growls and roars of the animals, tired, hungry, ready to feast on their prey. Gaze in the dim light of those narrow cells and feel the evocative atmosphere of history. During the tour, you will admire fragments of the original floor, the ancient drainage system, the rooms where gladiators waited to fight, the animal cages, and a reconstruction of an ancient elevator which, anchored to a system of trapdoors above, connected the underground and the Arena floor. Visit the central sand-covered wooden platform where the fights took place (“arena” was the Latin word for ‘sand’). After visiting the underground chambers, the tour will continue on the ARENA FLOOR, one of the most suggestive points of view to admire the massive structure of the Colosseum. Then, you will reach the first and second tiers of the Colosseum. Here, the panoramic terraces will give you an excellent opportunity to take more stunning photos and admire the monument from a privileged position. Learn more about its history, the bloody games it hosted, and loads of anecdotes and curiosities. Your tour will then lead you on a journey through history, visiting the area of the Roman Forum and the Palatine hill. From this point it is possible to see São Roque do Faial and the valley of Fajã da Nogueira, the chosen nesting place of the manx shearwater (Puffinus puffinus).After Stairway to Heavens trail, enjoy the PR3 Vereda do Burro trail, from there you can enjoy the view over the valley of Ribeira do Cidrão, which flows into Ribeira dos Socorridos at Curral das Freiras, or over the Paul da Serra plateau.
