Itinerary
Day 1
Full-day guided tour of the Adelaide Hills with hotel pickup in the morning, visiting Mount Lofty Summit, Cleland Wildlife Park, Hahndorf, Melba's Chocolate, a local winery, then returning to your hotel.
Hotel Pick-up (Adelaide City or Glenelg)
Pickup from your Adelaide City or Glenelg hotel. Exact pickup time for your location will be confirmed the night before the tour; Glenelg pickups start earlier than city pickups.
Tips from local experts:
- Expect a short pickup window — we confirm an approximate time the night before; please be ready in the hotel foyer at least 5 minutes early.
- Have ID and any special-diet notes (gluten/nut requests) ready to mention to the guide at pickup.
- Seatbelts are provided on the vehicle; luggage should be kept compact (one small bag per person) to fit the coach storage.
Mount Lofty Summit Lookout
Begin the day at Mount Lofty Summit for panoramic views across the Adelaide plains. There is a small gift shop and viewing platform at the summit.
Tips from local experts:
- Bring a light jacket—Mount Lofty can be significantly cooler and windier than the city, especially in spring mornings.
- For the best photos, head to the main viewing platform on the eastern side of the summit where the plains and coastline align.
- There is a gift shop and toilets at the summit; purchases are card-friendly but have small notes and souvenirs ideal for couples.
Cleland Wildlife Park — Self-guided time (approx. 2 hours)
Explore Cleland Wildlife Park at your own pace. Observe wombats, echidnas and dingos; hand-feed kangaroos and potoroos where permitted. Animal-welfare practices are followed — guests should follow staff guidance on interactions.
Tips from local experts:
- Follow the park signage and staff directions for feeding and interactions — some areas are supervised and sessions may have limited numbers.
- Wash or sanitise hands after any contact with animals; picnic-style spots and toilets are available on site.
- Carry a small sunhat and water bottle; shaded areas exist but much of the park is open bushland.
Hahndorf German Village — Free time for lunch & shopping (approx. 2 hours)
Wander the historic main street of Hahndorf at your leisure, choose from cafes or restaurants for lunch, visit artisan shops, and drop into the local information centre museum to learn about the town's German heritage.
Tips from local experts:
- If you plan to eat at a popular Hahndorf restaurant, ask the guide for an on-the-day recommendation — they can point out quieter spots for a relaxed couples lunch.
- Carry small change for artisan stalls; many shops accept cards but smaller vendors sometimes prefer cash.
- The main street is walkable with plenty of benches; if mobility is a concern, choose a cafe on the main drag to minimise walking.
Melba's Chocolate & Confectionery — Factory/shop visit
See the chocolate factory displays, sample handmade chocolates, grab a coffee or ice cream and relax on the lawns outside the shop.
Tips from local experts:
- If you have nut or gluten requirements, tell staff before selecting samples—gluten-free and nut-free options are available on request; dairy-free samples are not offered.
- Try to arrive early in the visit window to see production activity and avoid late-afternoon crowds.
- The shop accepts cards; there are outdoor lawns and picnic seating for a short break together.
Local Adelaide Hills Winery — Cheese plate & wine tasting
A relaxed wine tasting at a local Adelaide Hills winery with a cheese plate to share. Enjoy cool-climate wines and the surrounding views.
Tips from local experts:
- Inform the guide on arrival of any dietary restrictions so the winery can tailor the cheese selection where possible.
- Pace tastings slowly and use provided water between wines; this is a sampling experience rather than a long cellar visit.
- Bring a light layer—hillside tasting areas can be breezy, and some wineries have outdoor seating with scenic views.
Scenic drive through the Adelaide Hills back toward the city
A short scenic drive back to Adelaide city via rolling hills and vantage points — time to relax and enjoy the landscape as the guide provides closing commentary.
Tips from local experts:
- The route is winding in places—use the restroom during the winery stop if needed before the drive home.
- If you prefer a window seat for photos, ask when boarding after the winery stop and the driver will do their best to accommodate.
- Carry a small layer in case you step out briefly at a lookout along the route; some stops are brief photo opportunities only.
Hotel Drop-off (Adelaide City or Glenelg)
Return to Adelaide City or Glenelg hotels. Drop-off order depends on pickup routing and traffic; the guide estimates arrival times during the return drive.
Tips from local experts:
- Drop-off order depends on traffic and pickup routing; the guide will advise an estimated arrival window while returning to the city.
- Collect any personal items before leaving the vehicle; the guide will do a final sweep but it's good to check seat pockets.
- If you have evening plans, ask the guide for nearby restaurant or romantic spots in Adelaide—local suggestions are given without bookings.
