Itinerary
Day 1
Arrival & check-in at 小澤ろうそく店
Meet at the shop entrance for a short orientation. Staff will confirm the booking, explain safety (wax handling) and give aprons and brushes before the painting session begins.
Tips from local experts:
- Arrive 5–10 minutes before the scheduled start time so children can settle and staff can explain safety and materials.
- If you drive, bring cash for local parking — the operator notes parking fees may apply when purchases are under ¥2,000 or for stays over 1 hour.
- Wear or bring a light outer layer you don’t mind getting paint or wax on; aprons are provided but small spills can happen.
Aizu painted-candle (絵ろうそく) painting workshop
Guided hands-on painting session on a curved traditional candle. Choose your design (traditional flowers, simple characters, or original sketches). Staff assist younger children; focus on bold lines and simple shapes on the curved surface.
Tips from local experts:
- This workshop suits children who can sit and follow simple instructions (typically ages 4+); parents should assist younger children while painting.
- Work on a rounded surface — start with bold, simple shapes and avoid very fine detail for best results with wax paints.
- All painting materials are provided by the shop; bring a small towel or wipes for sticky fingers and have a spare shirt for young children.
Drying, photos & pack-up
Allow paint to set briefly, take photos of finished candles, and wrap your work for travel. Staff will advise if additional drying time is needed and help pack fragile items.
Tips from local experts:
- Allow the staff to confirm drying status before packing; if paint feels tacky, accept a short extra drying instruction from staff.
- Bring a small padded box or bag if you have one; the shop can assist with basic wrapping but fragile transport is the guest’s responsibility.
- If you plan to browse other local crafts nearby, note that central Aizuwakamatsu shops and streets are a short walk from 西栄町 — plan a brief stop after the workshop if your candles need extra drying time.
