Itinerary
Day 1
Complete family-friendly husky experience at Wild Kemijoki huskies kennel: check-in, safety briefing, 2 km sled drive, and hot drinks at the fire. Pickup from Levi Info is available if booked (see attention in booking notes).
Arrival & check-in at Wild Kemijoki huskies kennel
Arrive at the kennel, check in with the guide and get fitted with any shared winter wear if previously arranged. Short arrival buffer to settle children and use facilities before the briefing.
Tips from local experts:
- Arrive 10 minutes before the scheduled start to complete check-in and let children acclimatise to the outdoor environment.
- If you booked the pickup service, confirm pickup location (Levi Info) during checkout; otherwise plan own transport to Rovaniementie 3519, Kittilä.
- Keep small personal items (phones, cameras) in a secure pocket or with a parent — sleds and dogs are active environments.
Safety briefing & meet the huskies
Guides provide a basic driving lesson focused on safety for both guests and dogs. Meet and cuddle the huskies and learn team roles before you take the sled.
Tips from local experts:
- Listen closely to the guide’s safety instructions — seating arrangements (child as passenger vs. adult driver) are decided on-site depending on snow and group size.
- Children under 6 can often ride as passengers with an accompanying adult; final seating is decided by the main guide for safety.
- Keep movements calm around the dogs; the guides will show how to approach and handle each dog safely.
Drive your own husky sled — guided 2 km ride
Each competent adult will have the opportunity to drive a sled with a team of Siberian huskies along a guided 2 km route. Guides run the group and ensure dog welfare and guest safety throughout the ride.
Tips from local experts:
- Wear warm, layered clothing and windproof outer layers — the guide will brief you on safe driving posture and handling during the ride.
- Driving requires reasonable physical condition; guests with reduced mobility may ride as passengers but should notify the operator in advance.
- Two people typically share one sled; if you require a solo drive, book the appropriate passenger/solo option in advance or inform the guide upon arrival.
Hot drinks, biscuits and debrief by the open fire
Relax after the sled ride with hot drinks and biscuits at an open fire while the guide answers questions about the dogs and the kennel.
Tips from local experts:
- Bring a warm, spill-resistant mug or use the provided cups near the fire; supervise children closely around open flames.
- Use this time to ask guides about dog care, the kennel routine, and family-friendly ways to participate safely.
- If anyone in your group has food allergies, notify the guide before serving; biscuits are provided but may contain common allergens.
Farewell, photos and departure
Final time for photos, goodbyes to the dogs, and guide-led instructions for return. Group disperses or boards pre-arranged pickup.
Tips from local experts:
- Allow a few minutes at the end of the program for group photos and to collect personal items before departure.
- If you arranged pickup from Levi Info (Myllyjoentie 2, Sirkka), be ready at the agreed pickup time; pickup must be booked during checkout.
- If you’re running late for pickup or the scheduled start, contact the operator in advance (contact details provided on your booking voucher) — late arrivals may result in cancellation.
