Itinerary
Day 1
Meet, check in, paddle, swim and relax — a social half-day adventure capped with a meal in Albufeira Old Town.
Meet at Praia da Coelha — arrival & check-in
Assemble at the meeting point on Praia da Coelha to find the SUP Albufeira team, sign waivers (if any) and store small bags. This is the location listed on your booking.
Tips from local experts:
- Look for staff in SUP Albufeira shirts and paddle gear — they usually set up near the central access steps of Praia da Coelha.
- Bring a small dry bag or zip-lock for phone/keys; larger bags can be left with staff but avoid bringing valuables to the sand.
- Public parking near the beach fills quickly in July — if driving, allow an extra 10–20 minutes to find a spot; there's also public bus access to Sesmarias/Gale.
Safety briefing & equipment fitting
Quick safety talk, life-jacket fitting, paddle technique primer and a short warm-up on shore so everyone is comfortable before entering the water.
Tips from local experts:
- Be honest about your paddling experience — guides tailor the pace and keep the group together if it's a mixed-ability party.
- If you’re worried about sun, apply waterproof sunscreen before putting on the life jacket to avoid difficult reapplication later.
- Ask the guide to take a few posed group photos at the start — they’ll also take action shots during the trip you can share with friends.
Guided kayak tour to caves & cliffs (main touring)
Two-hour guided paddle along the coast visiting sea caves, grottoes and cliff viewpoints around the São Rafael / Gale stretch. Expect guided photo stops and short paddles into accessible caves (depending on sea conditions).
Tips from local experts:
- The route commonly heads toward Praia de São Rafael — sit higher in the kayak during cave approaches so you can see and photograph the formations.
- Listen to the guide for group positioning rules in caves; they’ll advise the safest angle and order if waves are present.
- Bring a small action camera or waterproof phone pouch; pics of the arches and golden cliffs are social-media gold — but keep devices secured while paddling.
Swim & beach break at a secluded cove
Short rest at a hidden beach or sheltered cove for a swim, snorkel or to relax on the sand. Time allows quick snacks and social photos before returning.
Tips from local experts:
- If you plan to swim, wear a swimsuit under your quick-dry clothes — towels and sunscreen are recommended for the short beach stop.
- For groups, nominate one person to hold the small group bag or use the guide’s storage — avoid leaving valuables unattended on rocks.
- Respect the local environment — take any litter back with you; these coves are fragile, and small groups help keep them pristine.
Paddle back, photo wrap-up & equipment return
Return to Praia da Coelha, hand back paddles and life jackets, and collect the complimentary photos the guides took during the tour.
Tips from local experts:
- Guides often share photos digitally; confirm how they deliver images (WhatsApp, email or download link) so you can all get copies.
- Rinse off sand and salt at the shore showers if available — it’s a quick refresh before heading into town.
- Tip the guide as a group if you enjoyed the service — for friends traveling together, pooling a tip is easiest and appreciated.
Transfer to Albufeira Old Town & relaxed lunch / drinks
Short transfer (walk or quick drive) to Albufeira Old Town for a relaxed group lunch, cold drinks and lively atmosphere — a great place to debrief the paddle and plan the evening.
Tips from local experts:
- Old Town has many terraces suited for groups — ask for an outside table with shade; mid-July gets busy so aim for an early table around 13:30.
- Try local beers (Sagres or Super Bock) or share a seafood platter for a group experience — many restaurants accommodate group orders and shared plates.
- If you want to keep the party going, walk a short loop through the square to spot live music or bar terraces; set a meeting point since the area can get lively in summer.
