Itinerary
Day 1
Full-day family plan built around a 2-hour private windsurfing lesson at Atalaya Isdabe. Pacing includes check-in, the lesson, rinse & change, lunch at the beach, a relaxed Old Town walk and playground/marina time.
Meet & check-in — Dynamic Windsurfing (Calle de Levante 53)
Arrival, safety briefing, paperwork and kit fitting (wetsuits, PFDs) at the meeting point. Instructor confirms goals for each child/adult and fits adjustable Dynamic Windsurfing gear.
Tips from local experts:
- Bring printed or mobile booking reference and completed emergency contact details to speed check-in.
- There is limited shade at the meeting point — bring a lightweight sun hat for kids while gear is prepared.
- Arrive with swimwear under clothes for a quick change; instructors will handle wetsuits and PFD sizes for children (minimum age 6).
Private family windsurfing lesson — Atalaya Isdabe (2 hours)
Instructor-led private session (adults & kids). Lessons are tailored to experience: beginners learn board and sail handling close to shore with ashore support; more experienced family members get offshore coaching and technique drills.
Tips from local experts:
- Kids must be at least 6 years old — the instructor will keep youngest learners close to shore and use smaller equipment for safety and confidence.
- Ask for extra on-shore demonstration time if you have anxious kids — instructors great at breaking skills into simple steps.
- September brings warm water and reliable light winds — still pack reef-safe sunscreen and a spare t-shirt for kids as wind can cool quickly after getting wet.
Rinse, change and quick snack break
Use the nearby rinse area or a shaded spot to change from wetsuits, dry off and have a light snack (fruit, sandwiches). Short rest to rehydrate and let children warm up after the lesson.
Tips from local experts:
- Bring a large beach towel per child to sit on and an extra dry set of clothes — kids get cold quickly when wet.
- Look for portable changing tents or use the meeting point facilities if available; ask the instructor about the nearest family restroom.
- Offer a carbohydrate snack (banana or sandwich) and water — it helps kids recover energy after active lessons.
Beach picnic / casual lunch on Playa de la Rada
Relaxed family picnic on Playa de la Rada. Either bring packed food or enjoy a simple beachfront meal (chiringuito-style tapas, grilled fish, kids' friendly options). Plenty of space for strollers and for kids to run nearby.
Tips from local experts:
- If you prefer a restaurant, many beach kiosks (chiringuitos) serve child-friendly dishes — request milder seasoning and smaller portions.
- There is usually shaded seating along the promenade; ask staff for a table near the play area if available for easy supervision.
- Bring wet wipes and a small first-aid kit — sand + little hands = frequent clean-ups; most beach eateries are accommodating with allergies if you mention them.
Transfer / short drive to Estepona Old Town (promenade transfer)
Short transfer or family stroll along the seafront promenade to Estepona's Old Town. A gentle 10–15 minute transition so kids can nap in the stroller or stretch their legs.
Tips from local experts:
- Promenade is stroller-friendly and mostly level — ideal for nap time or a relaxing push for tired little ones.
- If you drove, parking near the promenade can be limited; plan for a small walk from the car to the Old Town.
- Keep a small backpack with water, hats and a change of clothes handy — the walk has handy benches and shaded spots for rests.
Stroll Estepona Old Town & gelato at Plaza de las Flores
Family-friendly walk through the flowered lanes of Estepona's Old Town. Stop at Plaza de las Flores for ice cream and let kids enjoy the low-key pedestrian streets and decorative tiles.
Tips from local experts:
- Cobblestone streets are charming but can be bumpy for some strollers — choose a sturdy stroller wheel or carry small toddlers for short stretches.
- Plaza de las Flores has shaded seating and usually an ice-cream or pastry shop nearby — great place for a relaxed treat and photos.
- Keep visits to 30–45 minutes to avoid overtiring small children; there are many benches and shady cafés for breaks.
Playground / marina visit — Puerto Deportivo de Estepona
Finish with low-key free play at a family playground near the marina or a gentle walk along the puerto to watch boats — calm, scenic and a good wind-down after an active morning.
Tips from local experts:
- The marina walk is flat and stroller-friendly; benches and shade make it easy for short rests while kids play.
- Look for small playgrounds near the marina that are fenced — ideal for toddlers who need a secure play area.
- If children still have energy, a quick stop for churros or a juice at the marina kiosks is a local favorite and easy to share.
Farewell, kit return & optional next-step booking
Return to the instructor/vendor to hand back any rented gear, confirm photos or follow-up lessons, and say goodbyes. Time to organize belongings and head back to your accommodation at an easy pace.
Tips from local experts:
- Ask the instructor for a short recap of what each child learned and a few at-home practice tips — that helps momentum between lessons.
- Confirm where any photos or videos taken during the lesson will be shared and request copies if desired for family albums.
- Plan a gentle nap or quiet time after this activity for younger kids — the day is active and a calm end avoids overtired meltdowns.
