Itinerary
Day 1
Meet near the Acropolis (21 Chatzichristou). Scenic drive to the Corinth Canal, guided visit to Ancient Mycenae (site + museum), lunch in Mycenae village, then free time to explore Nafplio. Return and drop-off in central Athens.
The Corinth Canal
Short scenic stop at the Isthmus of Corinth to view the canal where the Gulf of Corinth meets the Saronic/Aegean area. Time allocated for photos and short briefing from the guide.
Tips from local experts:
- Meet the guide before departure at 21 Chatzichristou (corner with Makrigianni) by 08:45 — look for the BLUE umbrella; the tour departs promptly.
- There is a pedestrian viewpoint and bridge for photos — stay behind railings and avoid standing on the road edge; hold cameras securely (wind can be strong).
- Carry a light jacket and sunglasses; the canal area is exposed and can be breezy even on warm days.
Ancient Mycenae
Guided visit of the Archaeological Site of Mycenae: explore the Lion Gate, Cyclopean walls, the citadel, and the Treasury (beehive) tomb. Includes time for the on-site Archaeological Museum (guided). Hearing devices provided where applicable.
Tips from local experts:
- Wear sturdy, closed shoes — the site has uneven ancient stone paths and some short steep sections.
- Bring a photocopy/photo ID for any reduced tickets (youth/child) as inspectors may request ID when using reduced fares.
- Sun protection and water are recommended; shade is limited on the acropolis. The museum provides a shaded, seated area if you need a brief rest.
Mycenae village (lunch)
Lunch break in Mycenae village. Time provided for a relaxed meal at a local taverna and a short stroll through village streets.
Tips from local experts:
- If you have dietary restrictions, mention them when ordering; many tavernas offer simple vegetable, grilled fish, and bread options.
- Expect table service at family-run tavernas — allow 45–60 minutes for a relaxed lunch (tour schedule allocates ~60 minutes).
- There are limited cash machines in small villages; cards are accepted widely but having a small amount of cash can be helpful for incidental purchases.
Nafplio (Syntagma Square & Old Town)
Free time to stroll Syntagma Square, wander the cobbled lanes of the Old Town, and admire views of the Palamidi Fortress. Perfect moment for a relaxed coffee or gelato facing the sea promenade.
Tips from local experts:
- Syntagma Square (Plateia Syntagmatos) in Nafplio is pedestrian-friendly — choose a café with outside seating for a scenic view of the square.
- Streets in the Old Town are cobbled and can be uneven — wear comfortable shoes and watch for narrow steps when exploring alleys.
- If you’d like a short romantic photo, head to the waterfront promenade near the Bourtzi islet for open views of the fortress and sea.
Arrival to Athens (drop-off)
Return drive to central Athens with drop-off at Leoforos Vasilisis Amalias 54, near the Acropolis metro station and Melina Mercouri Monument. Short time to disembark and say goodbye to the guide.
Tips from local experts:
- Estimated arrival and drop-off is at Leof. Vasilisis Amalias 54 — this location is about a 3-minute walk from Acropolis metro station (Acropoli).
- Collect all personal items before leaving the vehicle; large buses will stop briefly at the designated drop-off point for disembarkation.
- If you plan to continue exploring Athens after drop-off, confirm with the guide the nearest metro exit to your next destination (Acropolis metro exit is recommended).
