Itinerary
Day 1
Morning sailing tour that departs from Casa China Bacalar. Arrive 30 minutes early to check in and board. The tour runs 08:00–11:00 followed by an optional beach-club unwind.
Meet at Casa China Bacalar — Check-in & briefing
Arrive at the marina inside Casa China Bacalar for check-in, safety briefing and equipment. Staff will confirm names and give lifejackets, drinks and a quick orientation.
Tips from local experts:
- Arrive with your swimsuit already on under light clothes — it speeds boarding and gives you more time on the water.
- The lagoon bans sunscreen and lotions: bring a wide-brim hat, UV shirt and sunglasses for sun protection and elegant photos.
- Bring a small amount of cash (MXN) for tips or to buy extra photos; the venue has spacious parking if you drive.
Sail to & admire Cenote Esmeralda
Set sail quietly across the lagoon to view Cenote Esmeralda — the largest and one of the deepest points. Great first-photo stop while the morning light is soft.
Tips from local experts:
- Sit on the windward side of the boat for the best unobstructed photos of the water's color gradients.
- Use the calm morning light for silhouette couple shots — ask the guide to position the boat for golden reflections.
- If either of you feels chilly after the swim, keep a light towel or sarong handy for a cozy wrap on deck.
Cenote Cocalitos — Stromatolite garden (swim & learn)
Approach the stromatolite sanctuary at Cocalitos. Your bilingual guide explains why these ancient structures matter — admire them from the water and enjoy a refreshing swim.
Tips from local experts:
- Look, but don’t touch — stromatolites are fragile. Ask the guide for the best shallow spots for safe photos without disturbing the formations.
- Float close together on rental inflatables or hold hands while drifting for a relaxed, romantic moment in clear water.
- Wear water shoes if you prefer more grip when boarding; the guides will help with getting in and out of the water.
Pirate Canal — Swim & romantic fruit picnic (special moment)
Shallow, warm waters and history: swim together at the Pirate Canal while the crew prepares a fresh fruit picnic and natural drinks. This is the tour's signature couples' moment — arrange a toast.
Tips from local experts:
- Ask the crew for a chilled fruit drink or a beer toast for a private romantic moment — they can help set up a best-photo angle.
- Request the guides to take a few candid photos of you both during the picnic; they know the best light and framing spots.
- If you want a quieter corner, tell the captain early — they can anchor where the water is calmest and more secluded.
Cenote Negro (Witch's Cenote) — deep-water color change
Visit the dramatic Cenote Negro and observe striking color changes due to depth variation. Perfect for contemplative moments and a deeper swim if you wish.
Tips from local experts:
- Stand together at the boat’s bow for dramatic photos that capture the water’s deep-blue hues — early morning reduces glare.
- The change of color is best seen from a little distance: ask the guide for a slow-circle pass so both of you can take it in.
- If either partner is uncomfortable with deep water, stay on the boat and enjoy the view — guides often describe the cenote's history and legends.
Bird Island — peaceful swim & birdwatching
A serene stop among mangroves and birdlife. Depending on season you may see migratory species — a quiet place to swim, snorkel and soak up nature together.
Tips from local experts:
- Bring a small pair of binoculars (or use your phone zoom) to spot local and migratory birds — dawn and morning are most active.
- For a romantic touch, pack a lightweight scarf or hat to coordinate for photos among the mangroves.
- Keep voices low here to enjoy bird calls; it makes for a more intimate, nature-focused experience.
Sail back to the dock — relaxed return
Enjoy a slow, wind-kissed sail back to the Casa China dock, taking in final lagoon views and a last refreshment from the crew.
Tips from local experts:
- Ask the crew for a final chilled drink to toast the morning together as you head back to shore.
- Use this relaxed sail-back time to swap photos or ask the guide for a recommendation for a romantic lunch spot in town.
- Store your wet items in the provided bins and bring a light cover-up for the breeze on the way in.
Beach club unwind at Casa China — optional kayak
After disembarking, relax at the beach club area inside Casa China: lounge, order a light snack or take a kayak together for a private paddle.
Tips from local experts:
- Reserve a shaded lounge or cabana early if you want more privacy — it makes for a calm post-tour hour together.
- Rent a double kayak for a couple’s paddle (ask staff); the shallow shoreline is perfect for a short romantic exploration.
- If you plan to snack, choose light local options (fresh ceviche or fruit plates) and ask for a quieter table facing the lagoon.
