Itinerary
Day 1
Meet at the port for a short Ushuaia city drive, then enter Tierra del Fuego National Park for guided short walks, a snack break, and scenic photo stops before returning to the port.
Meet at Port Exit — check-in
Meet your guide at the port exit (look for a sign reading 'CALA TOUR'). Check-in and brief welcome before boarding the van.
Tips from local experts:
- Allow 20 minutes for check-in: your guide will wait at the port exit with a 'CALA TOUR' sign.
- Bring your cruise ID and a small day bag; large luggage stays on board the ship.
- Wear a windproof outer layer — Ushuaia port areas are often breezy even in summer.
Ushuaia city sightseeing (drive & quick photo stops)
Short illustrated drive through Ushuaia with photo stops at the civic square area and main avenues, plus viewpoints including a panoramic city viewpoint en route to the park.
Tips from local experts:
- Keep cameras ready for quick photo stops; lighting can change fast near the water and mountains.
- If you need accessible seating, inform the guide at check-in — vehicle seating is limited.
- Carry a small snack or refillable bottle if you prefer specific dietary items; a snack will be provided later in the park.
Drive from Ushuaia to Parque Nacional Tierra del Fuego
Scenic transfer by van to the park entrance; guide provides natural and historical commentary en route.
Tips from local experts:
- Expect a 25–35 minute drive depending on traffic and weather; sit on the side of the van facing the mountains for better views.
- Keep a light layer accessible; temperatures can drop quickly once you leave the town.
- Use restroom facilities in town before the transfer if needed; park facilities will be limited to visitor centre stops.
Bahía Ensenada & 'Unidad Postal del Fin del Mundo' (photo stop)
First park stop at Bahía Ensenada. Short guided walk to the shoreline area and opportunity to visit the small postal unit for the 'End of the World' passport stamp (optional).
Tips from local experts:
- If you want the 'End of the World' passport stamp, bring small cash and your passport or a spare document.
- Short walk over uneven terrain — sturdy shoes recommended; this stop is brief (about 20 minutes).
- Watch for changing weather; carry a compact rain/wind layer and keep camera gear protected.
Lago Roca — short guided lakeshore walk
A peaceful 25–30 minute guided low-impact walk around part of Lago Roca for photos and wildlife viewing from the shore.
Tips from local experts:
- Choose closed-toe walking shoes; trails are natural and may be damp or uneven in places.
- Bring a zoom lens or binoculars for birds and distant mountain details.
- Keep low voices during the walk to increase chances of wildlife sightings and to enjoy the quiet scenery.
Centro de Visitantes — snack & restroom break
30-minute stop at the park Visitor Centre for a rest, restroom access, and the included snack in a peaceful forest setting.
Tips from local experts:
- Use the visitor centre restrooms; facilities are limited elsewhere in the park.
- Snack is provided — if you have dietary restrictions, bring a small backup item.
- Spend a few minutes at the viewpoint near the centre for wide-angle mountain and river photos.
Driving circuit: Río Lapataia, Archipiélago Cormoranes, Laguna Verde, Río Ovando and Bahía Lapataia (End of RN3)
Guided driving loop through the park’s scenic routes with short photo stops, finishing at Bahía Lapataia where Ruta Nacional 3 officially ends — time for photos at the sign.
Tips from local experts:
- This segment includes multiple short stops — follow your guide’s directions for safe photo locations near roads and shorelines.
- If you want a photo at the RN3 end sign, be ready with one person to step out for a quick picture and then return to the vehicle.
- Keep small valuables secured in the van during short stops; the group will reunite promptly to maintain the schedule.
Return drive to Puerto de Ushuaia — drop off at port exit
Return by van to the port; driver/guide times the return to ensure guests are dropped at the port exit with sufficient time before ship departure.
Tips from local experts:
- Keep your cruise boarding time in mind and inform the guide if you need to arrive earlier than scheduled.
- Stow cameras and larger items back in the van to avoid leaving anything behind at park stops.
- Expect a short debrief at drop-off; if you have leftover rubbish, hand it to the guide or bring it with you for proper disposal.
