Itinerary
Day 1
This is a cultural and sightseeing shore excursion. A local guide will take the group to multiple tourist attractions: local villages, markets, a wildlife encounter, an eco-park feel and the day finishes at the beach for photos and relaxation.
Pickup in Coxen Hole (start)
Meet your local guide and board the air-conditioned vehicle in Coxen Hole. Brief safety and itinerary orientation before departure.
Tips from local experts:
- Be ready in your cabin/cruise terminal 5–10 minutes before the scheduled pickup time of 07:00.
- Infant seats are unavailable on this tour; bring your own car seat if required for infants.
- Carry a small bottle of water and any necessary medication for children as the first transfer is short but the tour continues without long stops for purchases.
Punta Gorda village & local market visit
Short visit to a traditional Garifuna village area to meet locals, hear basic phrases in the local patois, and browse a small market for handmade crafts and souvenirs. Includes a short scenic coastal drive segment en route to the next stop.
Tips from local experts:
- Wear comfortable walking shoes; village paths can be uneven and shaded areas vary.
- Have small local currency handy for small craft purchases — many vendors prefer cash.
- Keep young children close near stalls and roads; market areas can be busy and narrow.
Wildlife encounter at Gumbalimba Park (visit)
Guided short visit to Gumbalimba Park for wildlife viewing and photo opportunities (birds, iguanas, monkey enclosures as available). The visit is timed to fit the shore excursion schedule while allowing family-friendly viewing time.
Tips from local experts:
- If you plan to take close-up photos of animals, keep a firm hold of children and follow the park staff’s guidance.
- Bring a lightweight rain jacket during sudden tropical showers — shaded areas in the park are limited.
- Food for animals may be restricted; do not feed wildlife unless explicitly allowed by park staff.
West Bay Beach — beach time & Roatán sign photos (finish)
Relaxed beach stop to enjoy the sand and sea, experience the laid-back Caribbean lifestyle, and take photos at the colorful Roatán sign. Time allocated for rest, photos, and a quick swim before returning to Coxen Hole for drop-off.
Tips from local experts:
- Bring reef-safe sunscreen, a hat, and swimwear; shade can be limited on the public beach areas.
- Supervise children closely in the water; if you need shade or family facilities, let the guide know so a suitable spot can be selected.
- Plan any restroom or changing needs before leaving the bus; public facilities vary by location and may require a small fee.
