Itinerary
Day 1
Meeting point: San Sebastian Tourist office (Alameda del Boulevard 8). Please arrive 10 minutes before the activity start time and give your name on arrival.
Market Visit
Guided visit with the chef to a local market to source the fresh produce used in the class. Learn about key Basque ingredients and meet some of the local vendors.
Tips from local experts:
- Bring a small reusable bag or tote for any small purchases; space will be limited during the market visit.
- Wear comfortable shoes and a light jacket — the market is partly covered but can be cool in the morning.
- Let the chef know about any allergies before the market visit so alternatives can be selected while shopping.
Walk back to the school
Short walk from the market back to the cooking school. The walk is approximately 15 minutes; this is a gentle, mostly flat stroll through the old town.
Tips from local experts:
- Expect about a 15-minute walk along cobblestone streets; wear stable footwear.
- If you need to shorten the walk, request a brief taxi — staff can assist on arrival at the market.
- Keep personal items secure and close during the walk through the busy old town streets.
Kookin time!
Hands-on cooking class at the school. You will prepare cod omelette, hake in green sauce, txuleta (ribeye) with piquillo peppers, and burnt Basque cheesecake. After cooking, the group sits together to enjoy the meal with a glass of wine or cider (for guests 18+). Souvenir apron provided.
Tips from local experts:
- Arrive ready to participate: the class is hands-on and space at each workstation is shared with a partner.
- If you do not drink alcohol, tell the instructor at the start — a non-alcoholic pairing will be provided on request.
- Keep hair tied back and avoid open-toed shoes for safety in the kitchen; aprons are provided but bring a small towel if preferred.
