Itinerary

Day 1

A complete Desert safari with pickup in a 4x4 vehicle, dune bashing, sandboarding, sunset photo stop, camel riding, visit to Al Royal Desert Camp for live entertainment (fire, tanoura, belly dance), henna and costume makeovers, and an intercontinental BBQ buffet with unlimited soft drinks.

Hotel pickup & transfer to desert

15:00 – 15:45 • 45m

We collect guests from their Dubai hotel or provided pickup address and drive toward the desert in an air-conditioned 4x4 vehicle to the dune area by Al Ittihad Road.

Al Ittihad Rd, Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Tips from local experts:

  • Be ready in your hotel lobby at the pickup time confirmed by the operator; drivers often collect several nearby guests before heading to the desert.
  • Bring your passport or ID during pickup as drivers may check booking details; keep valuables secure in the vehicle.
  • Charge phones and cameras before departure — network may be limited once in the dunes.

Red dune bashing (4x4 Land Cruiser)

15:45 – 16:25 • 40m

High-adrenaline red-dune dune bashing in a 4x4 Land Cruiser driven by a licensed driver. Session lasts approximately 30–45 minutes depending on conditions.

Al Ittihad Rd, Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Tips from local experts:

  • If you are prone to motion sickness sit toward the middle of the vehicle and inform the driver before departure.
  • Keep arms and heads inside the vehicle at all times during dune driving; secure loose items and cameras.
  • Wear comfortable, low-profile shoes and keep a small bag for belongings — drivers will advise where to stow items during the run.

Sandboarding & sunset photo stop

16:25 – 16:50 • 25m

Short stop to try sandboarding and to capture sunset photos across the dunes. Time allocated for quick runs and photos.

Al Ittihad Rd, Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Tips from local experts:

  • Remove footwear before sandboarding for better grip and to keep sand out of shoes; a short wipe or shake afterward helps.
  • Sunset light changes quickly—use portrait mode or a short video clip to capture the dunes; keep camera lenses free of sand.
  • Bring a lightweight scarf or bandana to protect your face from wind-blown sand during the stop.

Camel ride experience

16:50 – 17:10 • 20m

Short camel ride experience at the dunes/camp area. Can be repeated where available and as time allows.

Al Ittihad Rd, Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Tips from local experts:

  • Mount and dismount when instructed by the handler to avoid sudden movements; follow staff directions for safety.
  • If you have back problems or are pregnant, avoid the camel ride — the operator notes it is not recommended for these conditions.
  • Camel rides are typically short (several minutes); keep small items secured and use both hands when seated.

Transfer to Al Royal Desert Camp & short rest

17:10 – 17:30 • 20m

Drive to the desert camp, short rest and time to change into provided Arabic attire or prepare for camp activities (henna, costume photos, refreshments).

Al Ittihad Rd, Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Tips from local experts:

  • Use the brief transfer time to visit camp restrooms and freshen up—facilities at the camp vary by operator.
  • If you plan to try Arabic costume photos or henna, let staff know any skin allergies or restrictions beforehand.
  • Alcoholic drinks are not included; the camp provides unlimited soft drinks and water per the itinerary.

Desert camp: BBQ buffet dinner, live shows, henna & traditional activities

17:30 – 21:30 • 4h

Evening at Al Royal Desert Camp featuring an intercontinental buffet with BBQ (veg and non-veg options), live entertainment (fire show, tanoura, belly dance), henna painting, local coffee (gahwa) & dates, and hubbly bubbly where provided. Unlimited soft drinks and water included.

Al Ittihad Rd, Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Tips from local experts:

  • Vegetarian options are available at the buffet—inform camp staff on arrival if you have dietary restrictions or allergies.
  • Shows run in sequence; be ready for dim lighting for photos—use night or portrait camera modes and avoid flash that may disturb performers.
  • Quad bike rides and falcon photo experiences are optional extras and are not included by default—ask staff if you want these and be prepared to pay locally if available.

Why this experience

The desert around Dubai is vast and untamed in a way the city deliberately isn't. When you're in a 4x4 bouncing over dunes—stomach dropping, everyone laughing—you understand why people come to the Gulf. Then you switch to a quad bike and feel the sand shift under your own control. The camel ride comes next, slower, meditative, letting you see the landscape from a height and angle that feels ancient. By the time you reach the desert camp, you're dusty, exhilarated, and ready for a meal cooked over fire under stars that the city lights erased.

Your friends will remember the conversations that happened at that camp more than they remember the exact sequence of activities. This is the kind of evening where the pace slows after hours of adrenaline, and the desert does what deserts do: makes you feel both small and present.

Before you go

  • Best time: Winter and spring (November to April), when evening temperatures are cool and the desert is most comfortable. Avoid summer (June to September) when temperatures exceed 40°C.
  • Budget: Check the booking widget for current tour pricing. Full desert safari packages with multiple activities and dinner typically range from budget-friendly to mid-range.
  • Difficulty: Moderate — quad biking requires balance and comfort with off-road riding. 4x4 dune bashing is bumpy but not dangerous. Camel riding is slow and easy.
  • What to bring: Light layers (it gets cold at night in the desert), sturdy shoes, sunscreen, sunglasses, a camera, and a light jacket or shawl.
  • Getting there: Hotel pick-up is included. Your operator will collect you mid-afternoon and return you after dinner, usually around 10 PM.
  • Accessibility: Quad biking and dune bashing require physical agility. Camel rides may be difficult for those with mobility constraints. Inform your operator of any limitations.

Frequently asked questions

Is quad biking difficult if I've never done it before? No. Quad bikes are intuitive. You'll get a brief safety briefing, and guides accompany you throughout. Most first-timers handle it confidently after the first few minutes.

What if I'm nervous about dune bashing? The 4x4 is completely safe, and drivers are experienced. The sensation is intense but thrilling, not dangerous. If nerves are high, ask your guide to take it slower—they're happy to adjust.

Will we actually see wildlife in the desert? Occasionally you might spot desert foxes or oryx at dusk, but don't count on it. The focus is on the landscape and activity, not wildlife spotting.
