Itinerary
Day 1
Start From Dubrovnik Gruž port
Meet at the main Gruž dock at Obala Stjepana Radića 19. Boarding and check-in begin before departure; the vessel departs Gruž and proceeds through the Elaphiti islands. Weekday schedule (example): departure from Port Gruž 09:30, arrival Koločep 10:10. Tour includes restroom on board and scenic cruising time between islands.
Tips from local experts:
- Arrive 15 minutes before scheduled departure to check in and secure prime seating for sea views.
- Bring a light layer and sun protection — sea breezes can be cool in the morning and strong sun later.
- Keep a small dry bag for valuables and swimwear if you plan to disembark; snacks and water are limited on board.
Arrival to Koločep Gornje čelo
The vessel docks at Gornje Čelo on Koločep. Passengers may disembark to explore historic lanes, small beaches, and seaside cafes. If you choose to stay ashore longer, reboarding is possible on later scheduled legs of the hop-on-hop-off service — check the vessel timetable onboard.
Tips from local experts:
- If you plan to explore Koločep on foot, wear flat shoes for cobbled streets and short uphill sections.
- No large shops on the island — bring cash for small cafes; plan to reboard the scheduled boat if you wish to visit Lopud later.
- Check the vessel's pickup boarding time displayed at the pier before leaving the dock; midday shuttles run between islands.
Arrival to Lopud island
Lopud offers sandy beaches, monastery ruins, and relaxed seaside restaurants. The hop-on-hop-off model allows you to remain on Lopud for an extended visit; note there are midday shuttle legs between Lopud and Koločep (e.g., Lopud → Koločep at 13:00 and return at 13:30). Optional lunch on Lopud can be arranged on board (bookable onboard).
Tips from local experts:
- Reserve time for Šunj Beach if you want sand and shallow water; it requires a short walk or local shuttle from Lopud village.
- Optional lunch on Lopud is bookable only on board — if you want this, confirm and pay on the vessel before disembarking.
- Keep your return boarding time visible (written or in a photo) so you don’t miss the final vessel departures (typical island departures back to Gruž are in the late afternoon).
Koločep Donje Čelo
A scheduled stop at Donje Čelo on Koločep serves guests heading to accommodations or beaches on the island’s other side. This is a short docking intended for boarding/disembarking passengers and quick shoreline access; timing aligns with midday island shuttles.
Tips from local experts:
- Donje Čelo is a quick stop—if you disembark here, verify the next pickup time at the pier sign to plan your return.
- If you’re staying ashore at nearby accommodation, confirm exact drop-off/pick-up location with your host in advance.
- There is limited shade at this stop; carry water and a hat if you plan to wait ashore for the connecting boat.

Why this experience
The Elaphiti Islands are Dubrovnik's secret escape — a trio of emerald islands scattered across the Adriatic, each with their own rhythm. Unlike the packed Old Town, these islands breathe. You'll depart from Gruž port and hop between Koločep (with its hidden coves and villages), Lopud (where you can swim from sandy beaches), and the quieter villages of Gornje Čelo and Donje Čelo. The hop-on-hop-off model is the beauty here: you control the pace. Want to spend the morning snorkeling off Koločep? Stay longer. Prefer a quick lunch and move on? The next boat takes you. It's island-hopping without the rigid schedule, and you see a side of Dalmatia that cruise-ship crowds never reach.
Before you go
- Best time: Late spring through early autumn (May to September) when seas are calm and island villages are open.
- Budget: Check the booking widget for current tour pricing. No additional costs for visiting islands, though meals and drinks at island cafés and restaurants are on you.
- Difficulty: Easy — mostly boat travel and leisurely village strolls.
- What to bring: Swimsuit, sun protection (sunscreen, hat), light layers for sea breeze, water shoes or sandals for rocky beaches, snacks and water.
- Getting there: Meet at Gruž port (the main harbor area, accessible by local bus or short taxi ride from Old Town).
- Accessibility: The boat has basic facilities, but moving between boat and islands requires some agility. Steep steps in some villages.
Frequently asked questions
How long does the hop-on-hop-off tour take? Full day, typically 8 am to 5 pm. You can stay on each island as long as you want before catching the next boat back.
Can I swim? Yes — bring your swimsuit. Koločep and Lopud have beaches and designated swimming spots. Water is warmest in summer (June-September).
What if I get seasick? The crossing is usually calm in summer, but the Adriatic can be choppy in shoulder seasons. Bring ginger or motion sickness medication if you're prone to seasickness.
