Day 1
Craft Your Own Chopsticks at Mukouyama Gakkiten
Meet at Mukouyama Gakkiten, a traditional shamisen and koto workshop in Hirai, Edogawa. The 3-hour session includes an introduction to the woods reserved for instrument making, step-by-step instruction from a master craftsman, and time to shape, sand, and finish your own pair of chopsticks. The session ends with a quiet moment to admire and photograph your finished pieces together.

- Arrive 10 minutes early. The nearest rail access is Hirai Station (JR Sobu Line); the workshop at 4-1-16 Hirai is about a 10-minute walk from the station.
- This workshop is not wheelchair accessible. If you have mobility concerns or need additional assistance, notify the operator when booking so they can advise on suitability.
- Wear comfortable, casual clothes you don’t mind getting light dust on; bring a small pouch or bag for carrying your finished chopsticks home. There are public restrooms at Hirai Station if needed before the session.
