Pickup and transfer from Guadalajara to Tequila Selecto
Pickup in the Guadalajara metro area and drive to the artisan Tequila Selecto factory in Amatitán.
Tips from local experts:
- Confirm exact pickup address the night before so the driver meets you promptly.
- Have a light jacket for the minivan—air conditioning can be cool on the drive.
- Keep your ID handy (required for alcohol tastings later in the day).
Visit Tequila Selecto (guided tour & tasting)
Guided visit of one of the remaining artisan/industrial factories; see agave fields and sample tequilas, liqueurs, and creams produced on site.
Tips from local experts:
- Wear closed-toe shoes for walking in the distillery and agave fields.
- If you prefer non-alcohol options during the tasting, tell your guide in advance.
- Bring a small camera or phone; some production areas have excellent photo opportunities but follow staff guidance on restricted zones.
Transfer to Tequila (La Fortaleza distillery area)
Drive from Tequila Selecto toward the La Fortaleza distillery area in Tequila town.
Tips from local experts:
- Use the short transfer to charge phones and prepare any questions for the Fortaleza guide.
- Keep sunscreen and a hat accessible—sun can be strong between sites.
- Expect winding rural roads; sit where you feel most comfortable in the vehicle.
Tequila Fortaleza Distillery — Vive Abuelo Tour
Guided Vive Abuelo tour at La Fortaleza: observe traditional production, bottling, stopper workshop and aging cellar; finish with a guided tasting of four Fortaleza expressions in the old maturation caves.
Tips from local experts:
- Bring photo ID; tastings are for guests 18+ and staff may ask for ID.
- Tours use uneven surfaces in older cellars—wear comfortable, stable shoes.
- Ask the guide about differences between expressions to make the most of the tasting.
Transfer to Mirador de Tequila
Short drive to the Mirador viewpoint for photos and to try the swing attraction.
Tips from local experts:
- Secure loose items before using the swing; some viewpoints have safety staff who will advise.
- If you want an unobstructed photo, ask your guide for timing to avoid other groups.
- Carry small change for viewpoint or parking fees if requested locally.
Leisure time in Tequila town (main square & portals)
Free time in the Magical Town of Tequila: stroll the portals, take photos in the main square, and browse local handicrafts and tequila shops.
Tips from local experts:
- Carry small bills for market purchases and for vendors who may not accept cards.
- Plan a meeting time with your guide before dispersing; cell reception can be spotty in some plazas.
- If you want a souvenir bottle, check opening hours of specific tiendas—some close earlier in the afternoon.
Cantaritos El Güero de Amatitán — traditional drink stop
Visit Los Cantaritos El Güero to taste a traditional cantarito served in a clay jug (tequila, citrus juices). Short stop for a refreshing local beverage.
Tips from local experts:
- Bring cash—these traditional stands typically prefer cash payments.
- Cantaritos are alcoholic; share or order a non-alcoholic alternative if preferred.
- Ask for the clay cup (cantarito) if you want the traditional presentation and keep it as a souvenir if offered.
Return transfer to Guadalajara (drop-off)
Return drive to the Guadalajara metropolitan area. Drop-off at your requested point within the metro area completes the private tour.
Tips from local experts:
- Confirm your preferred drop-off address with the guide at the end of the tour.
- If you plan to continue exploring Guadalajara after drop-off, ask the driver for nearby transit or taxi recommendations.
- Keep any purchased bottles upright and cushioned for the drive back to prevent breakage.
