Day 1
Choose one 30-minute session. Minimum age 6. Arrive a few minutes early to check in so the instructor can prepare your name in Japanese phonetics.
Calligraphy — 10:30 session
30-minute guided calligraphy session: learn basic brush strokes, practice writing your name in Japanese phonetics, and write a chosen Chinese/Japanese character on a shamoji (rice scoop). Session ends with the completed shamoji to take home.
Tips from local experts:
- Minimum age 6 — younger children are not permitted for safety and materials reasons.
- Arrive 8–10 minutes before the listed start time to check in so the instructor can prepare your name in Japanese phonetics.
- Wear clothing you don’t mind getting a small amount of ink on, or ask the host for an apron when you arrive.
