Itinerary
Day 1
Afternoon circular e‑bike tour starting and finishing in Wilderswil. Total duration 4 hours including transfers and short stops at historical and scenic points.
Wilderswil – meeting, transfer & bike set-up
13:00 – 13:45. Pick-up at selected locations around Interlaken and transfer to Wilderswil. Bike fitting, helmets, brief safety and e‑bike handling introduction with your guide.
Tips from local experts:
- Bring a small daypack for water and a light jacket; the guide will store larger bags during the ride.
- Wear closed shoes suitable for pedalling; guides will adjust e‑bike motor assist to your comfort during the briefing.
- Arrive on time for the pick-up window — gear checks and a safety briefing are scheduled before departure.
Unspunnen Castle Ruin
13:45 – 14:15. Short ride to the Unspunnen Castle ruin. Explore the remains of the 13th‑century fortress and hear the guide's overview of the Unspunnen Festival history.
Tips from local experts:
- The ruin sits on a modest hill; hold your e‑bike in low assist when walking short steep sections.
- Good photo spot for group shots — the guide will pause briefly to take photos for the group.
- Watch for narrow trail sections and pedestrians when approaching the site from the lanes.
Heimwehfluh viewpoint
14:15 – 14:45. Scenic climb to the Heimwehfluh viewpoint with its stone tower and terrace offering panoramas over Interlaken, the Aare River and Lake Thun.
Tips from local experts:
- Expect a short steeper approach — use lower e‑bike assist or walk if preferred for comfort.
- This is a prime sunset/golden‑hour location — plan group photos here if lighting is important.
- There is a viewpoint terrace; keep personal items secure as it can be breezy on the tower.
Weissenau Castle (lake shore ruin)
14:45 – 15:30. Descend toward the lakeshore and the atmospheric Weissenau Castle ruins set among reeds and local birdlife on Lake Thun.
Tips from local experts:
- Stay on designated paths near the reed beds to protect wildlife and for safer footing.
- Bring a lightweight windbreaker — lakeside sections can be cooler and breezy.
- If you want closer lake views, ask the guide for a safe short detour point; avoid entering protected reed zones.
Lake Thun shoreline
15:30 – 15:45. Short lakeside stop to relax and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere on the shores of Lake Thun.
Tips from local experts:
- Keep valuables secure while taking photos at the shore; small groups should form a single row on narrow promenades.
- If you want to cool off, the guide can point out safe shallow entry spots, but swimming is not part of the scheduled tour.
- Group refreshments are not included — carry a refillable bottle; the guide will note nearby cafés for post‑tour visits.
Unterseen – historic old town
15:45 – 16:00. Ride along the Lombach River into Unterseen for a short tour of cobblestone alleys and traditional houses.
Tips from local experts:
- Slow down to walking speed on cobblestones for comfort and safety; the guide will lead through the best viewing streets.
- Restroom options are available in the old town; ask the guide to point them out during the stop.
- Look for distinctive painted façades and narrow passageways — ideal spots for group photos.
Casino Park Interlaken (Aare crossing)
16:00 – 16:15. Cross the Aare River and pass the Casino Park and fountain while traversing Interlaken town.
Tips from local experts:
- Follow the guide's instructions when crossing bridges and shared paths; traffic can be busy at times.
- This park has open lawns — keep group formation tight for photos and to avoid obstructing pedestrians.
- If anyone needs a short rest, the fountain area offers benches for a quick pause.
Bönigen – Lake Brienz shoreline
16:15 – 16:40. Follow the river into Lake Brienz and ride into Bönigen with its turquoise lake views and classic lakeside panoramas.
Tips from local experts:
- Be ready for narrow shoreline paths; ride single file and heed the guide when passing walkers or local traffic.
- Turquoise lake photos are best with short bursts of sun — quick stops are scheduled for views and photos.
- If you plan to continue exploring Lake Brienz after the tour, ask the guide for local route suggestions and safe bike storage tips.
Return to Wilderswil – wooden hydraulic bridge & finale
16:40 – 17:00. Final ride through quiet lanes, past churches and farmhouses, cross the historic wooden hydraulic bridge over the Lütschine River and glide past traditional chalets and the Schynige Platte railway station back to Wilderswil.
Tips from local experts:
- Keep a moderate pace on the final lane sections; some bridges are narrow and require single‑file crossing.
- If you borrowed helmets, return them to the guide at the end of the ride; bike cleaning and maintenance are included after the tour.
- Ask the guide for recommendations on nearby cafés or transport options from Wilderswil if you plan to continue exploring independently.

Why this experience
You're cycling the quieter loop of Lake Brienz on an e-bike, discovering the layered history of the valley as you go. You start in Wilderswil, climb to the medieval ruins of Ringgenberg Castle — perched above the water like something from a storybook — then descend to Goldswil, where a hilltop church offers an unobstructed panorama of the entire Brienz basin with the Alps framing the distance. Lunch comes at Seegarten Boenigen, a proper restaurant right on the lakeside with a menu built from regional ingredients and long views across the water.
After lunch, you walk the old village lanes of Bönigen to understand how these lake settlements were built, then you ride east to Iseltwald where the shoreline becomes intimate and the mountains feel closer. By the time you return to Wilderswil, you've traced the entire southern arc of the lake, seen three distinct landscapes — ruins, viewpoints, village — and tasted local food prepared with care. This is a full-day e-bike itinerary for anyone who wants depth: history without museums, views without scrambling, and a place to sit and eat like a local.
Before you go
- Best time: Late spring through early autumn (May through October). Summer brings long daylight but afternoon heat; start early. June and September offer the clearest views and most comfortable temperatures. Avoid winter when paths may be muddy or icy.
- Budget: Check the booking widget for current tour pricing. E-bike hire and helmet are included. Lunch at Seegarten Boenigen is on your own — plan for a casual regional meal plus café stops and refreshments throughout the day.
- Difficulty: Easy to moderate. E-bikes handle all climbs with motor assist, but expect steady pedalling. This is a full-day outing, so fitness and endurance matter more than technical skill. The terrain is rolling with no steep sections.
- What to bring: Comfortable cycling clothes, layers for changing weather, sunscreen, a small backpack with essentials, your phone for photos, and a reusable water bottle. Comfortable shoes (cycle-friendly trainers work well).
- Getting there: Meeting point is in Wilderswil — your guide confirms details when you book. Wilderswil is a 10-minute train ride from Interlaken or accessible by car.
- Accessibility: E-assist makes this manageable for mixed fitness levels. The terrain is scenic but involves a full day of riding. Walking sections (Bönigen village loop, Ringgenberg ruins approach) are on established paths. The restaurant at Seegarten is accessible. Discuss any concerns with the operator.
Frequently asked questions
Is a full day of e-biking exhausting?
With e-assist, not at all. You're riding, not racing. The pace is leisurely, with stops for history, viewpoints, and lunch. Most people enjoy it more than they expect.
What's the lunch situation?
You stop at Seegarten Boenigen for a proper sit-down meal with regional food. It's a real restaurant, not a quick sandwich. Arrive by early afternoon so you have time to relax and enjoy.
Can I do this tour if I don't have cycling experience?
Yes. E-bikes are designed for all levels. Your guide sets a comfortable pace and can provide tips if you need them. Most participants have no cycling background.
Are the itineraries on TheNextGuide free?
Yes. Every itinerary is free to browse and follow. Some pages feature bookable guided experiences through the booking widget — these are optional and priced by the operator.
