Itinerary
Day 1
Together we will visit the important places of the old city: the Jaffa Gate, the citadel of the Tower of David, the Holy Sepulcher, the Christian, Armenian, Muslim and Jewish quarters, the archaeological sites and the Western Wall.
Meeting point — Jaffa Gate
Group meet and short introduction. Your guide will check names, run through the route and local etiquette before entering the Old City.
Tips from local experts:
- Arrive 10 minutes early at Jaffa Gate (look for the guide holding the booking name) to allow a punctual start.
- Carry a small bottle of water and wear comfortable walking shoes; public restrooms are limited immediately inside the gate.
- Dress modestly out of respect for nearby religious sites (shoulders and knees covered) and have a light layer for shade or wind.
Tower of David (Citadel) — overview & viewpoint
Guided stop at the Tower of David citadel area for historical context and a viewpoint over the Old City walls. The guide will give an overview of Jerusalem’s layered history here.
Tips from local experts:
- Expect some uneven stone surfaces around the citadel; take care on steps and wear stable footwear.
- Use this pause for photos — the viewpoint gives one of the clearest panoramas of the Old City walls and domes.
- If you prefer a quieter moment, let the guide know; they can position the group to avoid crowds for photos or a short paired pause.
Jewish Quarter & Western Wall (Kotel)
Walk into the Jewish Quarter, visit selected archaeological vantage points and proceed to the Western Wall for explanation of its significance and the adjacent prayer plaza.
Tips from local experts:
- Follow guide instructions when approaching the Western Wall; there are separate prayer sections and security checkpoints.
- Keep voices low near the prayer area and avoid flash photography directly at people praying.
- There are nearby shaded spots and benches — ask the guide for a brief seated break if needed during this segment.
Christian Quarter & Church of the Holy Sepulchre
Enter the Christian Quarter and visit the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. The guide will explain the site’s layout, major chapels and the historical significance within Christianity.
Tips from local experts:
- Be prepared for narrow, busy interior spaces; keep belongings close and be patient during short pauses inside the church.
- Modest dress and quiet behavior are expected inside the church; some chapels may be inaccessible during services.
- Photography is allowed in many areas but avoid obstructing worshippers and follow any signage limiting photos in specific chapels.
Muslim Quarter — markets and local urban fabric
Stroll the bustling lanes of the Muslim Quarter, observe archaeological fragments woven into the urban fabric and pass key points such as sections of the Via Dolorosa.
Tips from local experts:
- Watch for narrow alleys and occasional motorized deliveries; stay close to the guide and your partner in crowded lanes.
- Carry small change if you plan to buy snacks or souvenirs; vendors commonly expect polite bargaining in market stalls.
- Bring bottled water and sunscreen; the market section can be exposed and warm during midday.
Armenian Quarter & rooftop special moment
Finish with a relaxed walk through the Armenian Quarter toward a quiet rooftop viewpoint where the guide will pause to summarize the city’s shared histories — a calm moment well suited to couples to take in the Old City skyline.
Tips from local experts:
- Ask your guide for the quieter rooftop spots; they can position the group for privacy and best views for a short paired moment.
- This quarter is compact and quieter than other quarters; use this time to sit briefly and rest before the tour ends.
- If you want close-up skyline photos, bring a small telephoto or smartphone with zoom — views capture the Dome of the Rock and surrounding roofs well from rooftops.
