Itinerary
Day 1
Pickup from hotels or central meeting points in Battambang city at 13:00 for a short briefing. The tour moves by tuk tuk to the Bamboo Train site in Sangkae, followed by countryside stops and Phnom Sampeou (killing cave and bat cave). Expect a relaxed pace with short stops for photos and explanations. Return to Battambang city by approximately 18:30.
Bamboo Train (norry) ride — Sangkae
Transfer from Battambang to the local Bamboo Train site in the Sangkae area and ride the traditional 'norry' to see small villages and countryside. Ride duration is roughly one hour on-site; ticket is purchased locally.
Tips from local experts:
- Bring small bills or local cash — the bamboo train ticket is purchased at the site (cash only).
- Wear comfortable clothing and a light jacket if it’s breezy on the open norry.
- Keep bags secure and low to the platform; choose seats toward the middle for a more stable ride.
Countryside tuk tuk drive & Phnom Sampeou (killing cave and bat cave)
After the bamboo train, continue by tuk tuk along rural roads with stops to observe local farming and village life. Proceed to Phnom Sampeou to climb (or take a local motorbike lift) to the hilltop sites: killing cave, large cannon and monastery; enjoy the hilltop views. Return to the base and wait for the evening bat emergence from the bat cave before returning to your hotel in Battambang city.
Tips from local experts:
- Wear sturdy shoes for the hill climb; there are steps and uneven paths—motorbike lifts are commonly available at the base if you prefer not to walk.
- Bring insect repellent and a small torch or phone light for cave approaches and low-light areas near the bat emergence.
- Carry a small reusable water bottle (bottled water is included) and a light snack if you tend to get hungry on walks; toilets at the hill base are basic, so plan accordingly.
