Itinerary
Day 1
Hotel pick-up in Krong Siem Reap (guide will arrange your Angkor Park ticket before the tour). The itinerary visits Angkor Wat, Bayon (Angkor Thom), Ta Prohm, finishing at Phnom Bakheng for sunset. Total tour duration is approximately 7h30.
Angkor Wat
Explore the largest religious monument in the world, Angkor Wat. Time allocated for walking the main galleries, central towers and exterior basins with commentary on architecture and iconography.
Tips from local experts:
- Dress respectfully (shoulders and knees covered) — lightweight layers work well for couples seeking comfort and style.
- Bring a refillable water bottle; bottled water is provided but refill points are limited inside the park.
- Arrive at the entrance with your guide’s assistance so you can start at quieter areas and avoid midday crowds.
Bayon (Angkor Thom)
Visit Bayon temple within Angkor Thom to see the famous smiling stone faces and bas-reliefs that depict daily life and historic scenes.
Tips from local experts:
- Follow the guide through the central towers to catch the iconic face carvings at quieter angles — great for couple photos.
- Wear comfortable shoes; there are uneven stones and some low doorways with stooping required.
- Carry a small hand sanitizer and tissues — facilities nearby are basic; use rest stops at the visitor areas between sites.
Ta Prohm (Jungle Temple)
Explore Ta Prohm's atmospheric, tree-entwined ruins — the site featured in the film Tomb Raider and prized for photogenic ruins and roots.
Tips from local experts:
- Stay close to your guide to follow the recommended route and avoid congested photo spots.
- Watch your step around roots and fallen masonry; the site is romantic but uneven — suitable for couples who are steady on their feet.
- Bring sunscreen and a hat; shaded areas exist but much walking is exposed to the sun in the afternoon.
Phnom Bakheng — Sunset viewpoint
Ascend Phnom Bakheng for sunset. The hilltop temple offers panoramic views over the Angkor plain — timed to arrive before golden hour and stay through sunset.
Tips from local experts:
- Arrive at the Phnom Bakheng stairs with time to spare — the climb and selecting a viewpoint take 10–20 minutes.
- Bring a small flashlight for the return descent after sunset; paths can be dim once the light fades.
- Respect the temple rules during sunset (no tripod restrictions may apply at times) and avoid loud music — ideal for a quiet shared moment.
