Half-day visit to Hug Chang Elephant Sanctuary in Kuet Chang (Mae Taeng). Observe and assist mahouts with daily care tasks (no hooks or chaining), make vitamin feed balls, help brush and clean elephants, enjoy bamboo rafting on the Mae Taeng River, and visit a Long Neck village. Itinerary
Day 1
Morning pickup from your hotel in Chiang Mai area (approx. 08:00) and transfer to Hug Chang Elephant Sanctuary in Kuet Chang. The half-day program combines sanctuary activities, a visit to a nearby Long Neck village, bamboo rafting on the Mae Taeng River, and a local lunch before return to Chiang Mai.
Hug chang (Elephant) sanctuary half day
Meet at the sanctuary to learn about elephant behavior and daily care. Activities include making vitamin/feed balls with mahouts, finding food, brushing and cleaning the elephants, observing them in a free-roaming environment, a bamboo rafting segment along the Mae Taeng River, and a visit to a nearby Long Neck village. Local lunch provided at the site or nearby following activities. Return transfer to pickup/drop-off location completes the program.
Tips from local experts:
- Wear closed-toe shoes and clothes you don’t mind getting dusty or wet; bring a light change of clothes for after rafting.
- Bring sun protection (hat, sunscreen) and a small quick-dry towel; bottled water is provided but carry a small reusable bottle if you prefer.
- Notify the operator in advance about any back problems or mobility issues; the experience is not wheelchair or stroller accessible and involves uneven terrain.
