Itinerary
Day 1
Meet at Kuşadası Cruise Port for pickup. Private transfer to Ephesus and a guided visit to the major monuments, with included countryside lunch and guaranteed return to the ship.
Meet at Kuşadası Cruise Port — Pickup & Transfer
Your licensed guide will meet you at Kuşadası Cruise Port and provide a short briefing. You will then travel by private, air-conditioned van toward Ephesus (Selçuk) — approximately a 25–35 minute drive depending on port location and traffic.
Tips from local experts:
- Have your cruise ship name and expected docking time ready to show the guide at meetup.
- Keep a photo ID or cruise boarding pass handy for port security checks.
- Ask the driver/guide to store any heavy bags in the van to avoid carrying them at the ruins.
Explore Ephesus — Great Theatre, Library of Celsus, Marble Street
The largest open-air museum in Turkey. Explore more than 30 linked buildings and streets with chariot wheel marks. Your guide will show the Great Theatre where St. Paul preached, walk Marble Street to the restored façade of the Library of Celsus, and point out the Temple of Hadrian, Roman baths and other notable ruins.
Tips from local experts:
- Wear sturdy, supportive shoes — surfaces are uneven marble and there are many steps; a walking stick can help.
- Bring sun protection (hat, sunscreen) and water — shade is limited along the main routes.
- Ask your guide to arrange skip-the-line tickets on the spot to reduce waiting time (entrance fees are paid separately).
Visit the Temple of Artemis ruins
See the remains of the Temple of Artemis, once one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Today the site contains scattered columns and ruins that indicate the scale of the former Hellenistic structure.
Tips from local experts:
- The site is small with exposed ruins — bring a light jacket if windy and a bottle of water.
- Photography is best from the marked viewpoints; avoid crossing ropes or restricted areas.
- Plan for a shorter visit here (about 20–30 minutes) — the guide will explain the historical context and key remnants.
Lunch in the countryside (included)
Enjoy a relaxed lunch at a nearby countryside restaurant or traditional eatery close to Selçuk — included in the tour. A restful meal to recharge before the afternoon visits.
Tips from local experts:
- Inform the guide of any dietary restrictions or food allergies before ordering so staff can accommodate them.
- Request a table near the restroom and in the shade if mobility or temperature sensitivity is a concern.
- Ask for lighter or low-salt options if you prefer a gentler meal between walking sections.
House of the Virgin Mary
According to Christian tradition, Mary was brought to Ephesus by the Apostle John after the Resurrection. A church now stands on the foundation of the house where she is believed to have spent her final days; this site has been visited and authenticated by recent popes.
Tips from local experts:
- The site sits on a hillside with some steps and uneven paths — wear comfortable shoes and move at a steady pace.
- The site is a place of quiet reflection; speak softly and follow any posted rules for photography and behavior.
- If mobility is limited, ask the guide in advance to plan for the shortest walking route and extra time for rests.
Temple of Hadrian (Curetes Street)
The Temple of Hadrian on Curetes Street is one of the best-preserved structures in Ephesus. Built before 138 A.D., its façade shows Corinthian columns and a central relief. The guide will explain its history and architectural details.
Tips from local experts:
- This stop involves brief on-foot exploration on Curetes Street — there are benches nearby for short rests.
- Keep to shaded pathways where possible; late morning can be sunny even in spring.
- Ask the guide for close-up explanations of the reliefs and inscriptions — it’s a compact stop good for photos.
Return transfer to Kuşadası Cruise Port
Private transfer back to Kuşadası Cruise Port with guaranteed on-time return for cruise passengers. Driver will drop the group at the designated cruise terminal area.
Tips from local experts:
- Allow a few minutes to collect personal items from the van and confirm drop-off location with the guide for port security.
- Keep your boarding pass or cruise ID ready for swift re-entry at the terminal.
- If you’d like a final restroom stop before returning to the ship, notify your guide as early as possible.
