Tips from local experts:

  • Arrive 10 minutes before the scheduled start to check in and collect provided overalls and boots.
  • There are toilet facilities at the kennel — use them on arrival to avoid interruptions during the tour.
  • Bring a small dry bag or inside pocket for essentials (phone, ID) — pockets in overalls are limited.

Meet the huskies & kennel tour

10:10 – 10:30 • 20m

Meet the Siberian Huskies in their yard and hear from the Musher about the dogs' personalities and family connections before they are hooked up for the run.

Vallholt, 650 Laugar, Iceland

Tips from local experts:

  • Supervise children near the dogs — they are friendly but energetic; keep movements calm when approaching.
  • If you want photos with a specific dog, tell the Musher early so they can arrange access safely.
  • Avoid wearing strong perfumes or scented lotions that may disturb the dogs during the close visit.

Dress up & safety briefing

10:30 – 10:45 • 15m

Staff help guests into provided overalls, boots, and any required gloves/goggles. The Musher gives a safety briefing covering sled handling, how to sit or stand on the sled, and what to do on trail stops.

Vallholt, 650 Laugar, Iceland

Tips from local experts:

  • Wear warm base layers and socks under the provided boots for best comfort.
  • Pay attention to the Musher's instructions if you may be asked to help mush the sled — they will explain safe timing and positions.
  • If an individual's weight exceeds 100 kg, notify staff in advance so the team can make necessary arrangements.

Dogsled ride on the trail

10:45 – 11:45 • 1h

Private sleds for groups of 2–4 guests, led by a Musher and pulled by 6–10 Siberian Huskies. The trail covers about 6–8 km and takes approximately 40–60 minutes including short photo stops. Guests may be invited to help mush when conditions and safety allow.

Vallholt, 650 Laugar, Iceland

Tips from local experts:

  • Expect wind and cold on the trail — keep goggles on during running to protect eyes from snow glare and wind.
  • Follow the Musher's directions at all times; stay seated or braced when instructed to avoid sudden movements.
  • If you plan to try mushing, let the Musher know early; they will assess conditions and coach you safely on the sled.

Post-ride time: cuddle, photos & wrap-up

11:45 – 12:00 • 15m

After the run the dogs are calm and happy — there is dedicated time to pet the huskies, take photos, and say goodbye. Staff will help with any final gear return and brief departure instructions.

Vallholt, 650 Laugar, Iceland

Tips from local experts:

  • Have your camera or phone ready before the sled stops; dogs get excited when arriving and photo opportunities are brief.
  • Be gentle when petting the dogs and follow any guidance from the Musher about safe interactions.
  • Allow time to return provided gear fully dry and to use the facilities before departing.
