Itinerary
Day 1
Meet at the cruise terminal, transfer to the Moin dock and take a guided pontoon boat trip through the Tortuguero canals. Local tropical fruits served after the boat tour.
Meet at Terminal de Cruceros JAPDEVA & Tortuguero canal boat tour
Meet your English-speaking guide outside the Port of Limón cruise terminal. Short transfer to the Moin dock, then a guided pontoon boat cruise through the canals to observe orchids, water lilies, sloths, monkeys, crocodiles and tropical birds. After the boat tour, enjoy locally served tropical fruit before departing for Cahuita.
Tips from local experts:
- Meet at 08:00 outside the Port of Limón cruise terminal by following the white lines to the main building; your guide will wear a navy blue polo and khaki pants and hold a sign with your name.
- Bring insect repellent, sunscreen, and a light rain layer; footwear should be non-slip and quick-dry for boarding the pontoon boat.
- Infants must not sit on laps on this tour—bring an appropriate child restraint or confirm arrangements in advance; restroom facilities are limited before boarding, so use terminal facilities.
Day 1
Guided walking visit in Cahuita National Park with wildlife spotting, a mild hike along the shore and free time for a swim or sunbathing.
Cahuita National Park – guided walk and beach time
Arrive at Cahuita National Park for a guided walking tour led in English. The guide will point out wildlife in their natural habitat during a mild hike along the coastal trail. You will have time to swim or relax on the beach before leaving for the banana souvenir stop.
Tips from local experts:
- Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a hat, reef-safe sunscreen, and water; parts of the trail are sandy and uneven.
- Carry a small daypack with a towel and swimwear if you plan to swim—the guide will provide a sensible pace for families and point out safe beach areas.
- Respect wildlife: observe from a distance and do not feed animals; the park has basic ranger presence but carry any needed medications for children.
Day 1
Visit a local banana souvenir and fruit shop to learn about banana cultivation, browse souvenirs and return to the Port of Limón.
Mangrove Souvenir & Fruit Shop – banana plantation stop and souvenir shopping
Stop at a local banana souvenir and fruit shop where your guide explains the banana cultivation process. Time to taste local fruit and shop for souvenirs before the return transfer to the port.
Tips from local experts:
- Bring small cash for souvenirs (local colones or US dollars); most small shops accept cash rather than cards.
- If traveling with young children, supervise them near displays and fruit samples; some items may be fragile or perishable.
- Allow time to use restroom facilities at the stop before the drive back; the return to the cruise terminal is timed to meet cruise passenger schedules.
