Itinerary
Day 1
Half-day experience including pickup from Levi, reindeer farm visit in Lompolo, ice fishing, hut lunch and return transfer.
Pickup from accommodation in Levi and transfer to Lompolo
Minivan pickup from your accommodation anywhere in the Levi area followed by a scenic 35-minute drive to Lompolo. Groups kept small (max 8).
Tips from local experts:
- Be ready in your hotel lobby 10 minutes before the scheduled 10:00 pickup time; driver will wait at the agreed pickup point.
- If you are staying outside central Levi (nearby villages or chalets), expect pickup timing to be confirmed locally in advance.
- Wear the warm outer layer and winter boots for the short walk from vehicle to farm; Levi roads can be icy in winter.
Reindeer farm visit in Lompolo
Meet and feed gentle reindeer at a private local farm. Guides share stories about reindeer life, Lapland nature and local traditions; small gift purchases (reindeer antlers) are possible—bring cash if you wish to buy one.
Tips from local experts:
- Bring a small amount of cash (coins/bills) if you want to buy reindeer antlers or small souvenirs; card facilities may not be available.
- Supervise young children around animals and follow guide instructions when feeding—move slowly and avoid sudden gestures.
- Avoid using flash photography when close to the animals and keep a safe distance if a reindeer approaches.
Short transfer to the fishing spot
Short drive or walk from the farm to the nearby frozen lake or prepared ice-fishing site where equipment will be distributed.
Tips from local experts:
- Use the farm restroom before departure; facilities at the fishing spot are typically limited.
- Bring a small daypack with essentials (water, snacks, spare gloves); pockets can be bulky with mittens on.
- Traction aids on boots (cleats) help on icy patches around shorelines; consider them if you have them.
Ice fishing on the frozen lake
Guided ice fishing session with equipment provided. Try to catch perch; guides assist with drilling holes and safe handling. Fishing is supervised and family-friendly.
Tips from local experts:
- Fishing equipment is supplied—wear warm, waterproof gloves and layered clothing to stay comfortable while stationary.
- Keep children close and avoid running near fishing holes; the guide will supervise hole locations for safety.
- If you have motion/sensory-sensitive children, bring a quiet activity (book, small toy) for short waiting periods.
Traditional hut lunch and campfire grilling
Warm up inside a cosy hut. Enjoy soup and hot drinks; if fish were caught, they can be grilled over the open fire and served. Time to hear more about local life and eight seasons of the region.
Tips from local experts:
- Inform the operator about dietary restrictions in advance; staff can accommodate common needs during the communal soup lunch.
- The hut uses an open fire for grilling—keep loose clothing and long scarves clear of flames and supervise children near the fire.
- Bring a small camera or phone for photos, but be respectful of the private farm/hut interiors and other guests.
Return transfer to Levi and drop-off at your accommodation
Short transfer back to the Levi area and drop-off at your original pickup address; end of the half-day experience.
Tips from local experts:
- Drop-off will be at the same address as pickup; keep any purchases (antlers) in protective bags for the drive back.
- Plan for a short debrief with guides on the return drive if you have questions about the day or need local tips.
- Allow a small margin for returns as the minivan may collect other guests from the same route.
