Itinerary
Day 1
Pick up (Lucca)
Meet for pickup in Lucca. We will collect guests at their hotel or the nearest point outside the city's limited-traffic ZTL area, then depart for the Chianti Classico region. Driver and guide will confirm the exact pickup point in advance.
Tips from local experts:
- If your hotel is inside Lucca's historic walls we will meet outside the ZTL; common meeting spots are near Porta Elisa or Piazza Napoleone—confirm the exact point when you receive your pickup details.
- Be ready in the hotel lobby at least 10 minutes before the scheduled pickup time to keep transfers on schedule.
- Bring a valid photo ID for the driver/guide if requested and a small day bag with sunscreen and sunglasses for vineyard visits.
Gagliole — guided tour, lunch and tasting (Panzano in Chianti)
Visit to the first winery for a guided tour of the vineyards and cellars, followed by a light multi-course lunch (starter, first course, second course and dessert) paired with the estate wines and a tasting of their selection.
Tips from local experts:
- Cellars are typically cooler than outside — bring a light layer for comfort during the cellar walk and tasting.
- Notify the operator of any dietary restrictions in advance so the winery can accommodate the lunch menu.
- Wear closed-toe shoes suitable for walking on gravel/vineyard paths and modest slopes.
Castello di Monsanto — guided tour + 4-wine tasting (Barberino Val d'Elsa)
Afternoon visit to Castello di Monsanto for a guided cellar tour and a tasting of four wines. If Castello di Monsanto is unavailable the alternative indicated is Molino di Grace in Panzano in Chianti.
Tips from local experts:
- The tasting includes four wines—ask the guide any questions about grape varieties and aging while at the tasting bench.
- Castello di Monsanto and nearby alternatives have uneven stone surfaces and light slopes—comfortable shoes are recommended.
- If this winery is closed or unavailable the standard alternative is Molino di Grace in Panzano; confirm the specific afternoon venue when you receive the final itinerary.
Drop off (return to Lucca)
Return transfer to Lucca with drop-off at your hotel or the agreed non-ZTL meeting point. The timing shown is an estimated transfer window; final arrival depends on traffic.
Tips from local experts:
- If you require drop-off at Lucca train station or the airport, specify this in your booking so the driver can plan the most direct route.
- Traffic in the late afternoon can vary; expect the drop-off time to be an estimate—carry any onward travel tickets with flexible timing.
- For hotels inside Lucca's historic centre the driver will stop at the nearest point outside the ZTL; have luggage ready to avoid delays.
