Itinerary
Day 1
Late-afternoon arrival, 4-hour hands-on tapas cooking class at Cooking Point followed by a short walk to a rooftop for a sunset/after-dinner cocktail.
Arrive & check in — Cooking Point (meet at Calle de Moratín 11)
Arrive a little early to check in, store coats and get settled. Use this time for a quick espresso together or to take a few photos in the cozy studio before the workshop starts.
Tips from local experts:
- Aim to arrive 20 minutes early so you can pick a comfortable workspace together and settle in—it’s romantic to choose adjacent prep stations.
- Spring evenings in Madrid are mild—bring a light layer for the walk to the rooftop later, and keep a small bag for any recipe booklets you’ll receive.
- If one of you has dietary needs, remind staff at check-in so they can pair you appropriately (they accommodate alternatives).
Welcome, intro & briefing with the chef
Short welcome by your local chef: overview of the recipes, safety briefing, pairing you into cooking partners (couples usually paired together), and a quick glass of welcome sangría.
Tips from local experts:
- Ask the chef for a quick recommendation of which tapas techniques are easiest to recreate later for a romantic night at home.
- This is a good moment to request a photograph of you two with the chef—staff are used to taking quick portraits.
- If you prefer to cook together as a private pair, mention it—most classes accommodate pairing requests when space allows.
Hands-on tapas cooking workshop (make 7 recipes)
Practical, guided cooking session: you and your partner will prepare 5 traditional tapas, a dessert and sangría together under the chef’s guidance. Learn about Spanish ingredients (olive oil, cured ham, chorizo) and local food customs as you cook.
Tips from local experts:
- Work as a team: one person can handle hot pans while the other plates—this shared rhythm makes the experience more intimate.
- Ask the chef for substitutes if you’d like to make a vegetarian or lighter version—spring produce suggestions are often available.
- Keep your phones handy for short recipe-shot videos; the chef often gives quick plating hacks that look great in photos.
Sit-down dinner: enjoy your tapas & sangría
At the end of the class you’ll sit down to share the dishes you prepared with your partner and classmates — a relaxed, intimate dinner to taste what you cooked and swap stories.
Tips from local experts:
- Toast to your evening with the sangría you made—ask for a small extra pour to enjoy the rooftop afterward if you'd like.
- Take a few minutes to write down a favourite recipe note in the included booklet while the dishes are still fresh in your mind.
- If you want a quieter table, ask staff for a corner seat when you sit; they’ll often accommodate couples who want a more intimate spot.
Wrap-up, recipe booklet & farewell photos
Chef answers last questions, hands you the printed recipe booklet and encourages you to take any group photos. A nice moment to collect contact details or note local market tips for future cooking together.
Tips from local experts:
- Ask the chef for the names of recommended local markets (where to buy jamón or fresh prawns) so you can recreate the meal later as a couple.
- If you enjoyed a particular local ingredient, ask where to buy it—staff often point you to small shops nearby rather than tourist markets.
- Use this time to request a note on timings for reheating or storing leftovers—handy for recreating the experience back home.
Leisurely walk to rooftop — transfer on foot
Short 10–15 minute walk through the literary quarter and Gran Vía toward the Círculo de Bellas Artes rooftop — a romantic, ambient stroll as the city lights come on.
Tips from local experts:
- Take the scenic route via Plaza del Ángel and Calle de las Huertas — it’s atmospheric at dusk and full of shaded alcoves for photos.
- Spring evenings are pleasant; wear comfortable shoes but you can keep the pace relaxed and romantic (allow time for a quick photo stop).
- If the walk feels long, a short taxi (5–8 minutes) is an easy alternative; tell the driver Círculo de Bellas Artes, Calle de Alcalá 42.
Rooftop cocktail at Azotea Círculo de Bellas Artes — sunset / afterglow
End the evening with a romantic cocktail (or glass of wine) on the famed Azotea rooftop terrace of the Círculo de Bellas Artes — panoramic views of the Madrid skyline and a perfect golden-hour spot.
Tips from local experts:
- Request a window-side seat with skyline views when you arrive — it’s worth the slight wait for sunset photos together.
- Azotea can be breezy after dusk in spring—bring a light wrap or ask staff for a blanket to stay cosy.
- If you want to make the night extra-special, ask for a house cocktail recommendation and order a shared dessert to extend the moment.
