Itinerary

Day 1

Afternoon workshop session in the historic medina. Please arrive a little early to reach the workshop location inside the narrow lanes.

Arrival & meeting — Marrakech Hand arts

14:50 – 15:00 • 10m

Meet at the workshop entrance inside the medina. Staff will welcome participants, confirm names and the chosen words/expressions for bookmarks.

Marrakech, 40000, Morocco

Tips from local experts:

  • Arrive 10–15 minutes early; the workshop is inside the Medina's narrow lanes—use 'Jemaa el-Fna, Marrakech' as a clear taxi landmark and allow a short walk from there.
  • Have your booking name or voucher ready on your phone to show the host when you arrive.
  • If you have limited mobility or large luggage, notify in advance; access involves narrow alleys and possible steps.

Arabic Calligraphy Workshop (hands-on)

15:00 – 17:00 • 2h

A guided 2-hour session with the master calligrapher: short introduction to tools and basic strokes, individual practice, the master writes each participant's name and produces laminated keepsakes and bookmarks. A short break with mint tea and bottled water is included.

Marrakech, 40000, Morocco

Tips from local experts:

  • Wear dark or older clothing and avoid long loose sleeves—ink is used and can stain fabrics.
  • Bring the exact spelling of names/words (written or on your phone) so the master can confirm the correct Arabic transliteration before composing the piece.
  • A short refreshment break includes traditional mint tea and bottled water; tell the host in advance if you have any beverage allergies or strong preferences.

Why this experience

Two hours learning to hold a reed pen and shape Arabic letterforms under the guidance of a master calligrapher — a hands-on workshop inside the Marrakech medina where you practice basic strokes, watch your name composed in Arabic script, and leave with laminated keepsakes and hand-finished bookmarks with your chosen expressions. Mint tea and water arrive mid-session so the rhythm stays relaxed.

ArCallima runs this as an intimate session where the calligrapher works with each participant individually, transliterating names and adjusting technique guidance to skill level. The result is something you made with real tools and real ink, not a printed souvenir. Check the booking widget for current pricing and availability.

Whether you want a meaningful keepsake that connects you to Moroccan artistic tradition, a meditative pause between market days, or a couple's activity that produces something beautiful to take home, this workshop fills the slot in about two hours flat.

Before you go

  • Best time: Year-round — the workshop is entirely indoors. A good afternoon activity when the medina heat peaks or when you want a quiet contrast to a busy morning.
  • Budget: Budget-friendly. The session includes all materials, the calligraphy keepsakes, bookmarks, mint tea, and water. No additional costs.
  • Difficulty: Easy — seated, indoor workshop suitable for all ages. No physical exertion. The only requirement is the ability to hold a pen.
  • What to bring: Wear dark or older clothing — ink can stain. Avoid long loose sleeves. Bring the exact spelling of any names or words you want calligraphed (written down or on your phone) so the master can confirm the Arabic transliteration.
  • Getting there: The workshop is inside the medina near Jemaa el-Fna. Use the square as a taxi landmark and walk from there. Arrive 10–15 minutes early — medina lanes are narrow and easy to misjudge.
  • Accessibility: Access involves narrow medina alleys and possible steps. The workshop itself is seated at a table. Contact the operator in advance if you have mobility concerns about reaching the venue.

Frequently asked questions

What's included in this workshop? The two-hour session by ArCallima includes instruction from a master calligrapher, all tools and materials, laminated calligraphy of your name, hand-finished bookmarks, mint tea, and bottled water. Check the booking widget for current pricing.

Do I need to know Arabic? Not at all. The calligrapher handles the transliteration of your name and chosen words into Arabic script. You learn the basic strokes and form, not the language itself.

Can children participate? Yes — children who can hold a pen comfortably can participate. The calligrapher adjusts the guidance for younger participants. Supervise around ink to avoid staining clothes.

How many people per session? Sessions are kept small to allow individual attention. Check the booking widget for group size limits. Private sessions for couples or families can typically be arranged.
