Itinerary
Day 1
Private 4-hour guided highlights tour of Marrakech. The guide and driver will transport you between sights in a comfortable vehicle and lead short on-foot visits at each stop. Admissions (if desired) are arranged and paid on site.
Jardin Majorelle (Majorelle Garden)
Begin with a guided visit of the famed botanical and artist's garden created by Jacques Majorelle. Time on site focuses on the garden's layout, plantings and the blue Cubist villa exteriors (museum entry not included).
Tips from local experts:
- Arrive prepared for shaded paths but some uneven surfaces; comfortable flat-soled shoes are recommended.
- Tickets to enter the garden are purchased on arrival; bring small local currency or card for entrance if you wish to enter the museum.
- If you prefer fewer crowds, request an early start time when booking — mornings are generally quieter.
Koutoubia Mosque (exterior visit)
Drive into the historic Medina to view the Koutoubia Mosque and its minaret. The guide provides historical context and points out architectural influences. This is an exterior visit (non-Muslim entry to the prayer hall is not part of the tour).
Tips from local experts:
- Respect local customs: avoid entering the mosque courtyard if a prayer service is underway and dress modestly for photos.
- The area around the mosque offers several shaded benches — use these for short rest breaks.
- Photography is allowed from the exterior; avoid using a tripod in very busy moments to keep footpaths clear.
Bab Agnaou (Kasbah gate)
Short stop at the historic Bab Agnaou gate near the Kasbah to learn about the Almohad period and the gate's role in the city's defensive and administrative complex.
Tips from local experts:
- The gate is best viewed from the public street; there are short steps nearby — watch your step on uneven paving.
- This stop is photo-friendly; mornings provide softer light on the stone façade.
- Keep valuables secure while pausing at busy viewpoints; pickpocketing can occur in crowded tourist areas.
Bahia Palace
Guided visit to the palace's principal courtyards and salons. The guide will explain the palace's 19th-century history and architectural highlights. Note: only a portion of the palace is open to visitors.
Tips from local experts:
- Entrance to the palace requires a ticket purchased on site; hold on to your ticket for re-entry if needed.
- Wear clothing that covers shoulders and knees inside palace areas out of respect for local customs.
- There are shaded courtyards and benches; use them to rest between rooms, especially on warm days.
Souk Semmarine (guided souk walk)
Walk through Souk Semmarine with your guide to experience the markets, see traditional crafts, spices and leather goods, and learn negotiation and local-culture tips.
Tips from local experts:
- Allow extra time for narrow alleys and slower-moving foot traffic; follow your guide closely to stay on the planned route.
- If you plan to shop, carry small notes and coins for easier transactions and verify basic prices before bargaining.
- Be aware of sample offerings from vendors (e.g., spices or foods); politely decline if you prefer not to taste.
Jemaa el-Fna (square and final stop)
Finish the tour at Jemaa el-Fna square where the guide explains the square's role in Marrakech life and points out seasonal street-food stalls and performance areas. For a romantic 'special moment' at day's end, ask the guide about nearby rooftop terraces that overlook the square.
Tips from local experts:
- The square is lively and can be busy; hold hands or a personal item close if you prefer a more intimate visit.
- If you want a panoramic view, request assistance from your guide to reach a nearby rooftop terrace safely (terrace visits and purchases are optional).
- Plan any purchases of food from stalls for immediate consumption; check for fresh, hot-prepared items and avoid pre-cut items left exposed for long periods.
