Itinerary
Day 1
Arrival at the hotel, transfer to camel park, camel trek into Erg Chebbi, sunset, sandboarding, dinner, drum circle and overnight in a Berber tent.
Meet at Kasbah Mohayut — check-in, pool lounge & briefing
Arrive at the hotel reception (meet your guide Koro or Aicha). Relax by the hotel garden/pool, store valuables, and receive a short safety briefing and camel orientation before departure.
Tips from local experts:
- Ask reception to hold passports/valuables in the hotel safe so you can travel light and feel relaxed together.
- Bring a light shawl or scarf from the pool area for the evening — it doubles as a sun shield and a romantic photo prop during the trek.
- Confirm your preferred tent style (standard or upgrade) at briefing if you want extra privacy — couples often request tents positioned slightly apart from the group.
Jeep transfer to camel meeting point
Short jeep ride from the hotel to the camel area / camel park where your camel caravan begins.
Tips from local experts:
- Sit together in the jeep for uninterrupted views on the approach to the dunes and to snap close-up photos of the desert edges.
- Keep suncream and sunglasses accessible — the jeep ride kicks up dust, and you'll want to be ready for the first camel mounting.
- If you prefer a quieter start, tell your driver you’d like to depart a few minutes earlier or later — small timing tweaks are usually possible.
Camel trek into the Erg Chebbi dunes
Ride a camel together across the golden dunes toward your bivouac site. The guide leads the caravan as you settle into the rhythm of the trek.
Tips from local experts:
- Ask to ride adjacent camels so you can chat and take selfies while moving — guides can usually arrange this for couples.
- Sit on the back side of the saddle slightly forward for a more comfortable, steady ride during longer stretches.
- Carry a small resealable bag with just your camera and a bottle of water to keep sand out and hands free for photos.
Sunset viewpoint & sandboarding (golden-hour special)
Reach a dune crest timed for sunset. Watch the sky change color together, then try short sandboarding runs nearby.
Tips from local experts:
- Request a quiet spot from your guide for sunset — a small private patch of sand makes this moment more intimate.
- Bring a compact tripod or ask the guide for help to take a 'golden hour' portrait of you both with the dunes as a backdrop.
- Wear light layers — temperatures drop quickly after sunset, so bring a warm wrap to cuddle in while you watch the horizon.
Bivouac arrival — settle into your Berber tent & tagine dinner
Reach the camp, settle into your tent. Enjoy a shared traditional tagine dinner by the campfire, with vegetarian options available on request.
Tips from local experts:
- If you want a romantic table setup, mention this at arrival — guides can arrange a slightly more private seating area by the fire.
- Ask for the local mint tea ritual after dinner — it’s a relaxed moment to sit close together and share stories under the stars.
- If either of you has dietary needs, confirm them at check-in; camps are experienced with simple modifications (e.g., less spicy, no nuts).
Drum circle, storytelling & stargazing
Local musicians lead a drum circle; enjoy communal songs, stories, and superb stargazing away from light pollution.
Tips from local experts:
- Stand back a bit during the drum circle to enjoy the soundscape and each other's company — it makes for a more romantic atmosphere.
- Ask the guide to point out constellations and the Milky Way — many couples treasure these quiet sky moments.
- Keep a small flashlight with a red filter (or phone on low brightness) to move around without spoiling night vision or photos.
Overnight in a Berber tent (bivouac)
Sleep in a traditionally furnished Berber tent. Tents may be shared or private depending on booking; blankets and basic bedding provided.
Tips from local experts:
- Request a private tent if you want an uninterrupted, romantic night — upgrades are often available and worth it for couples.
- Use the provided blankets and bring a lightweight travel sheet if you prefer extra comfort — desert nights can be cool in April.
- Store electronics and valuables in your locked bag at reception or in the guide’s jeep if you're worried about sand inside the tent.
Day 2
Sunrise at the dunes, camp breakfast, return camel ride through the dunes, and drop-off back at Kasbah Mohayut with time to freshen up.
Dune-top walk for sunrise — intimate viewing
Short walk (or short camel escort) to a dune crest to watch sunrise together. This is a signature romantic moment — soft light, silence and wide desert views.
Tips from local experts:
- Bring a thermos with hot tea from camp — sharing a warm drink as the sun rises is a classic couples’ ritual.
- Ask your guide for a less-crowded viewpoint; even small shifts in location create more privacy for photos and quiet conversation.
- Wear shoes with good grip; early-morning sand can be firm but uneven — pick a stable spot for the best sunrise shots.
Camp breakfast & farewell
Enjoy a relaxed breakfast at camp (fresh bread, omelette, tea/coffee). Say goodbye to hosts and share final photos.
Tips from local experts:
- Ask for some sweet local pastries to try together — the small shared tastes make breakfast feel special.
- Take a minute to write a short thank-you note or tip for the hosts; it’s a meaningful gesture after an intimate stay.
- Double-check tent and personal items before departure—couples often leave small accessories behind in the morning rush.
Camel ride back through the dunes to the jeep drop-off
Return camel journey across the sand, a slower time to soak up the desert light and take final photos together.
Tips from local experts:
- Use the return ride for relaxed conversation and to plan the rest of your trip — the slow pace is perfect for lingering together.
- Ask the guide for one last short stop on a dune crest for a final couple’s portrait in natural light.
- Keep cameras/cell phones in a sand-resistant pouch for the ride back; sand is most easily kicked up during mounts/dismounts.
Return to Kasbah Mohayut — swim, shower & check-out
Jeep transfer back to the hotel. Enjoy access to the Kasbah pool and garden for a shower or a cooling dip before your onward plans.
Tips from local experts:
- Book a late checkout with the hotel in advance so you can freshen up and relax after the desert overnight.
- If you both want privacy after the trip, ask reception for a quiet corner garden table and enjoy mint tea together.
- Carry lightweight flip-flops and a small towel in your daybag for a quick pool dip without needing to access stored luggage.
