Itinerary
Day 1
Senior-friendly, 4-hour private tour visiting Kyle Canyon, Cathedral Rock, and Lee Canyon. Easy walking, regular rest stops, and sheltered viewpoints.
Hotel pickup in Las Vegas (meeting & boarding)
We'll meet at your hotel porte-cochere or main entrance and load luggage/assist with boarding. Please provide hotel name at booking.
Tips from local experts:
- Ask the hotel concierge to point to the main porte-cochere for a level pickup — it avoids stairs.
- If you use a cane or walker, let us know in advance so we can bring a vehicle with easier access.
- Carry any daily medications with you; we'll keep stops frequent to accommodate needs.
Scenic ascent: drive through desert to high desert and alpine (includes Kyle Canyon & Fletcher Canyon viewpoint)
Enjoy the changing landscape as we climb. We'll pause for photos and short, flat viewpoint walks at historic Kyle Canyon and nearby Fletcher Canyon pullouts.
Tips from local experts:
- The guide will choose the flattest viewpoint spots so you avoid steep steps — ask for the closest parking spot.
- Even in May it can be 10–25°F cooler than the Strip — bring a lightweight insulating layer and a hat.
- Cell signal is patchy; if you need assistance, tell the guide before we leave town so we can plan stops near facilities.
Short transfer to Cathedral Rock area (gentle drive)
A brief, scenic drive along Kyle Canyon Road to the Cathedral Rock trailhead area. Driver provides mobility assistance for boarding/exiting.
Tips from local experts:
- This short drive is along winding mountain road; sit on the uphill side if you’re prone to motion discomfort.
- Driver can stop at a restroom or picnic table near the trailhead before walking — please ask.
- Keep a small bottle of water handy for the short walk to stay hydrated at higher elevation.
Cathedral Rock — short, accessible viewpoint walk
A short (approx. 0.3–0.6 mile) loop/walk near Cathedral Rock. We'll take a gentle, slow-paced route to a scenic overlook — optional if you'd rather stay at the trailhead.
Tips from local experts:
- The trail is short but rocky in places — wear supportive shoes and take the easier, flatter viewpoint path if needed.
- There are shaded picnic benches at the trailhead; choose to remain seated and enjoy the view if walking is uncomfortable.
- Bring sunglasses — the bright alpine sun reflects off pale rock and can be stronger than in the valley.
Transfer to Lee Canyon (short drive over the ridge)
A scenic drive across the mountain to Lee Canyon with views of meadows and peaks. We'll stop briefly for photos along the way.
Tips from local experts:
- Ask to stop at the first safe pullout if you'd like a photo with pines and open meadow in the background.
- If anyone feels lightheaded at this altitude, notify the guide immediately — we will slow the pace and provide seating.
- There is more shade and wind protection in Lee Canyon; a light windbreaker is handy even in May.
Lee Canyon Meadows & Ski Area — lodge visit, easy stroll, tea/snack break
A relaxed hour at Lee Canyon: enjoy meadows and mountain views, use accessible lodge restrooms, and have a light snack or hot drink in the lodge (self-pay).
Tips from local experts:
- Lee Canyon lodge has indoor seating and accessible restrooms — perfect for a comfortable snack and restroom stop.
- If you prefer not to walk on uneven ground, there are level boardwalks and viewing areas right by the parking lot.
- Ask the lodge for a hot drink — warming up inside for 10–15 minutes is a great way to manage any chill from the elevation.
Return transfer to Las Vegas hotel
Comfortable drive back to your Las Vegas hotel with a short rest stop if needed. We'll drop you at your original pickup location.
Tips from local experts:
- Keep your outer layer handy in the vehicle for the descent; temperatures will rise as we drop in elevation.
- If you need a restroom stop on the way back, tell the driver early so we can use a safe, accessible facility.
- Expect to arrive back mid-day — good time for a leisurely lunch or rest at your hotel to recover from altitude change.
