Itinerary
Day 1
Full-day safari from Nairobi to Ol Pejeta Conservancy with morning and afternoon game drives, lunch at Sweetwaters Serena Camp, and return to Nairobi by evening.
Meet & Pickup — Nairobi (Koinange Street)
Group meet and vehicle boarding. Driver/guide confirms passenger list, distributes bottled water and a short safety briefing for the day.
Tips from local experts:
- Be ready at the meeting point on time; confirm the exact pickup spot on Koinange Street with your operator the evening before.
- Pack a small day bag with essentials (snacks for kids, a light jacket, sunscreen) — the vehicle will carry larger luggage.
- Bring any required medications and motion-sickness remedies if prone to travel sickness on bumpy roads.
Drive from Nairobi to Ol Pejeta Conservancy (en route)
Drive north toward Nanyuki and Ol Pejeta Conservancy. Short comfort stop en route for restroom/stretch and to purchase light snacks if needed.
Tips from local experts:
- Expect one short scheduled comfort stop (about 10–20 minutes) en route; use this time for restroom breaks and stretching legs.
- Windows can be dusty on the highway; keep valuables in a secure bag and children seated when the vehicle stops.
- Charge cameras and devices before departure; mobile coverage is intermittent between Nairobi and Nanyuki.
Morning game drive — Ol Pejeta Conservancy
Begin an extended morning game drive inside Ol Pejeta with your driver/guide searching for rhinos, elephants, lions, buffalo and other wildlife. Includes a visit to areas where the chimpanzee sanctuary is located (viewing depends on park operations).
Tips from local experts:
- Dress in neutral, lightweight layers and sturdy shoes; mornings can be cool around Mount Kenya and warm up quickly.
- Keep voices low and follow the guide's safety instructions — maintain distance from wildlife and stay inside the vehicle unless instructed otherwise.
- Bring binoculars and a camera with spare batteries; vehicles often stop briefly for good sightings so be ready.
Lunch — Sweetwaters Serena Camp
Lunch at Sweetwaters Serena Camp / restaurant area. Time to relax while watching animals that visit nearby water points (meal as specified in the Bokun activity).
Tips from local experts:
- Notify the operator in advance of any food allergies or children's meal needs — kitchen can usually accommodate simple requests if told beforehand.
- Restrooms are available at the camp; use this opportunity to check nappies or change younger children if needed.
- Keep belongings supervised; the dining area may have opportunistic wildlife nearby so follow staff guidance about open doors and windows.
Afternoon game drive — Ol Pejeta Conservancy
Return to the conservancy for a later game drive focusing on additional wildlife viewing and areas not covered this morning. Drive concludes mid-afternoon.
Tips from local experts:
- Afternoon game drives can be warmer; bring a hat and refillable water bottle (operator typically supplies water).
- Keep children's seating and seatbelts secure during game drives; sudden stops are possible for animal sightings.
- If you wish to purchase souvenirs at the camp, bring small cash (local currency) — card acceptance may be limited in remote areas.
Return drive to Nairobi and hotel drop-off
Depart Ol Pejeta mid-afternoon and drive back to Nairobi. Estimated arrival in Nairobi in the early evening with drop-off at central hotels or agreed city locations.
Tips from local experts:
- Expect the return trip to include a short comfort stop; keep an eye on children’s hydration and snack needs before departure.
- Traffic into Nairobi can affect arrival time; plan onward travel (flights, meetings) with flexibility for evening arrival.
- Confirm your preferred drop-off address with the driver at the start of the day to ensure a timely hotel or central location drop-off.
