Why this experience
Four nights in New York where every evening ends in a different speakeasy — Bar SixtyFive at the Rainbow Room, Clover Club in Cobble Hill, Attaboy on the Lower East Side, and Employees Only in the West Village. This self-guided itinerary curated on TheNextGuide wraps the cocktail bars in daytime romance: a Central Park Bow Bridge walk and Top of the Rock sunset on Day 1, AIRE Ancient Baths and a Brooklyn Bridge sunset walk into a River Café dinner on Day 2, the High Line and Whitney Museum into a Dyker Heights Christmas lights tour on Day 3, and a SoHo morning with a Classic Harbor Line holiday lights cruise on Day 4.
The design treats nightlife as the reward for each day's slower rhythm. Early autumn sunsets create natural transitions — golden hour at Top of the Rock before dinner, dusk over the Brooklyn Bridge before The River Café, twilight at Dyker Heights before Attaboy. The Saks Fifth Avenue light show and Rockefeller Center tree appear on Day 1 as the connective holiday set piece. Each day's café pauses (Buvette, Chelsea Market, Sant Ambroeus, Café Cluny) keep the energy paced for late nights.
Before you go
- Best time: November as designed — early sunsets for dramatic golden-hour viewing, holiday installations beginning at Bryant Park and Dyker Heights, and cool evenings that make speakeasies and candlelit rooms feel especially intimate. Works late October through December.
- Budget: This is a self-guided itinerary curated on TheNextGuide — no booking required. Hotel, restaurants, spa, cruise, museum entry, and all activities are arranged and paid independently. Book AIRE Ancient Baths, The River Café, Classic Harbor Line cruise, Gabriel Kreuther, and Minetta Tavern well in advance. Speakeasies vary — Bar SixtyFive and Clover Club take reservations; Attaboy is walk-in; Employees Only accepts both.
- Difficulty: Easy to moderate — each day involves two to three hours of walking. The Dyker Heights evening (Day 3) is two hours outdoors in the cold. The Brooklyn Bridge walk (Day 2) is about forty-five minutes.
- What to bring: Warm layers, waterproof boots, gloves, smart evening outfit for dinners and speakeasies, camera with night mode, hand warmers for outdoor evenings. November rooftops, the cruise deck, and Dyker Heights are cold — dress in proper winter layers.
- Getting there: The itinerary starts with check-in near Midtown. Subway to Times Square–42nd Street or Fifth Avenue–59th Street serves most Day 1 venues. The Central Park Bow Bridge is a ten-minute walk from the southeast park entrance.
- Accessibility: Top of the Rock, Bryant Park, Chelsea Market, and the Whitney have full accessibility. The Brooklyn Bridge pedestrian walkway has uneven planks. AIRE Ancient Baths has ground-level pools — confirm access when booking. Classic Harbor Line has accessible boarding. Speakeasies vary — Bar SixtyFive has elevator access; Attaboy and Employees Only are at street level; confirm specific needs in advance.
Frequently asked questions
How many speakeasies are included?
Four — one per evening. Bar SixtyFive (rooftop, Rockefeller Center), Clover Club (plush Brooklyn bar), Attaboy (custom cocktails, Lower East Side), and Employees Only (polished West Village classic). Each has a different atmosphere, so the progression feels varied rather than repetitive.
Is Dyker Heights worth the trip on Day 3?
Yes — the residential holiday light displays on 83rd to 86th Streets between 11th and 13th Avenues are among the most elaborate in the country. A private car from Chelsea takes about forty-five to sixty minutes. Allow two hours for the walk and dress in serious winter layers.
Can we skip the museums and add something else?
Yes — the Whitney (Day 3) is included for its terraces and calm atmosphere, not as a required stop. Swap it for extra High Line time, Chelsea gallery visits, or an afternoon nap before the Dyker Heights evening. The Met is not in this itinerary but could substitute for the SoHo morning on Day 4.
Do all the speakeasies require reservations?
Bar SixtyFive and Clover Club take reservations — book ahead. Attaboy is walk-in only with first-come bar seating — arrive early. Employees Only accepts reservations but also welcomes walk-ins. For the best couples' experience, try to secure seated spots at all four.
