Itinerary
Day 1
Orientation, knowledge development (classroom), confined-water skill training in shallow water, and a supervised boat dive followed by an afternoon confined-water session to practice skills.
SSI Open Water Course — Day 1: Classroom, Confined Water & Boat Dive
Morning classroom briefing (knowledge development), followed by confined-water training in shallow water to learn and rehearse core scuba skills. Midday supervised boat dive to practice skills in open water. Late-afternoon follow-up confined-water session to reinforce any skills and review the day's learning.
Tips from local experts:
- Bring a printed or downloaded copy of any pre-study/modules you completed online; instructors will reference these during the morning briefing.
- Wear reef-safe sunscreen and bring a hat and light cover-up for surface intervals—the sun is strong on the boats and piers.
- Avoid alcohol and strenuous exercise the night before and the morning of diving; ensure you are well-hydrated and have eaten a light meal before the morning briefing.
Day 2
Two supervised open-water dives at local Boracay dive sites to review and demonstrate required open-water skills under instructor supervision.
Open Water Dives — Day 2 (Dives 1 & 2)
Early-morning boat departure for two supervised open-water dives at local Boracay dive sites. The dives focus on applying confined-water skills in open water, buoyancy control, navigation basics, and safety procedures.
Tips from local experts:
- Bring a small zip-top bag with ID, seasickness medication if needed, and a lightweight dry shirt for the boat ride; secure valuables in your accommodation.
- Charge your mask strap and fins correctly—label your gear or keep it together with a colored strap to avoid mix-ups on the boat.
- Rest between dives, drink water during surface intervals, and tell your instructor immediately if you feel any ear discomfort or fatigue.
Day 3
Completion of the required open-water dives, final skills review, safety scenarios, and certification processing.
Open Water Dives & Certification — Day 3 (Dives 3 & 4) + Review
Two final supervised open-water dives to complete the required number for certification, followed by a skills review, debrief with your instructor, and confirmation of course completion/certification paperwork.
Tips from local experts:
- Bring any personal documentation requested by your instructor (photo ID, completed medical consent forms) to speed up certification processing.
- Keep your dive log or notes from previous days handy so instructors can quickly sign off on demonstrated skills.
- Plan light activities for later in the day; avoid flying or ascending to high altitude for at least 18–24 hours after your final dives.
