Itinerary
Day 1
Half-day scenic loop visiting parks, coastal lookouts and mountain viewpoints around Honolulu and the eastern coast of Oahu. The tour starts in Waikiki and moves east along the coast before returning toward the city.
Queen Kapiʻolani Regional Park
Meet your guide and begin the tour with views of Diamond Head and Waikiki from the park boundary. Short photo stop; guide will help with framing and take a few couple portraits.
Tips from local experts:
- There are public restrooms inside the park—use them before departure if needed.
- Bring sun protection (hat/sunscreen); open park sections have little shade in the morning.
- Allow your guide 5–10 minutes here for posed photos facing Diamond Head.
Diamond Head Beach Park
Short stop at the Diamond Head lookout near the trailhead to capture coastal views and surfers offshore. Quick photo opportunity and context about the landmark.
Tips from local experts:
- The main parking and lookout are a short walk from the road—wear comfortable shoes for a quick stroll.
- This spot is exposed to sun and wind; a light layer helps for cooler breezes.
- Ask the guide for a low-angle shot that captures both the coastline and Diamond Head in one frame.
Kahala (Gold Coast) — upscale neighborhood drive-by
Drive-through and short viewpoint of Kahala’s Gold Coast mansions and shoreline. Scenic observation from the vehicle and a short stop for photos from a safe roadside viewpoint.
Tips from local experts:
- This is primarily a drive-by neighborhood; remain with the vehicle and follow the guide's instructions for safe photo stops.
- Respect private property — photos should be taken from public sidewalks or approved pullouts only.
- If you want closer photos, ask the guide in advance so they can advise on safe stopping points.
Hawaii Kai Lookout
Lookout halfway up the road to Koko Crater with panoramic views over Hawaiʻi Kai and the southeastern coastline; brief stop for scenic photos.
Tips from local experts:
- The lookout area is roadside; watch for traffic when stepping out of the vehicle.
- Bring sunglasses—the glare off the water can be strong on clear days.
- The guide can compose a wide-format photo to include the shoreline and distant Diamond Head.
Lanai Lookout
Short stop at the Lanai-facing lookout for extended sea views; on clear days you can see neighboring islands. Quick photo session with coastal scenery.
Tips from local experts:
- This lookout is exposed—hold hats and secure small items on windy days.
- If you need shade, ask the guide to position the vehicle or step slightly back from the edge.
- Keep moving during the stop if you prefer shorter exposures to wind and sun.
Halona Blowhole Lookout
View the natural blowhole formed by lava tubes; brief lookout stop to watch ocean spray and take photos. Your guide will point out safe viewing areas.
Tips from local experts:
- Stay behind safety rails and on paved lookout areas—the rocks below can be slippery and the surf unpredictable.
- Do not attempt to climb down to the shoreline; strong currents make the area hazardous.
- A short walk from the parking/lookout provides different camera angles—follow your guide for safe vantage points.
Eternity Beach Lookout (Secret Beach)
Short stop at the small beach near the Halona Blowhole, famous for film appearances and dramatic shoreline shots. Guide provides a brief couple portrait session with DSLR.
Tips from local experts:
- Access paths can be uneven—wear stable shoes and follow the guide to safe photo spots.
- Tide and surf conditions change quickly; avoid venturing onto wet rocks near the water.
- This is the set location for several films—ask your guide for recommended angles for dramatic shoreline photos.
Makapu'u Lookout
Stop at Makapu'u Point lookout for sweeping ocean and lighthouse views; time for relaxed photos and to take in the coastal landscape.
Tips from local experts:
- There are paved viewpoints with railings; use them for the clearest views of the lighthouse and coastline.
- If you prefer a quieter shot, ask the guide to time photos when fewer visitors are in frame.
- Binoculars are useful here—ask the guide if one is available for a closer look at offshore features.
Nuʻuanu Pali Lookout
High-elevation viewpoint with panoramic views of the windward coast and historic context. Brief stop to enjoy the cliffside vistas.
Tips from local experts:
- This lookout is windy and elevated—bring a light jacket and secure hats/hair for photos.
- There are short paved areas and railings—remain behind barriers for safety.
- Ask the guide for a quick historical note about the location if you want background for photos.
Tantalus Lookout / Puu Ualakaa State Park
Final elevated viewpoint above Honolulu with sweeping city and Diamond Head vistas—ideal for a closing portrait and city-overview photos before return.
Tips from local experts:
- The access road is winding—remain seated until the vehicle is safely parked at the lookout.
- There are shaded benches—use them for a relaxed final photo session or a quick rest.
- This lookout offers broad city vistas; ask the guide for a composition that includes both Waikiki and Diamond Head.
