Pickup at your accommodations
Private pickup across Porto. Boarding and short orientation. We depart Porto at 08:30 for the Douro Valley.
Tips from local experts:
- Have your accommodation address and a contact phone available for the driver at pickup.
- Pack a light jacket; mornings can be cool in the valley even in autumn.
- Bring any medication or travel essentials in a small day bag kept with you — the vehicle will carry larger luggage.
View point Casal do sLoivos
Short photo and viewpoint stop to take in a first panorama of the Douro Valley.
Tips from local experts:
- Wear stable shoes — viewpoints may have gravel or uneven ground.
- Keep camera or phone charged; this stop is for panoramic photos of the valley.
- Apply sunscreen and sunglasses on sunny days — shade can be limited at viewpoints.
Olive Oil museum for tasting two olive oils, honey, almonds and table wines
Guided visit to the local olive oil museum where you'll learn traditional production methods and taste two oils alongside regional dried fruits and a table wine, with valley views.
Tips from local experts:
- Taste olive oil with a plain piece of bread or cracker to note differences — ask the guide for the recommended order.
- If you have nut allergies, mention them to the guide before the tasting (almonds are served).
- Carry a small bottle or sample bag if you plan to purchase oil, as packaging may differ across producers.
Lunch at charming Quinta
Lunch with wine pairings at Quinta do Ventozelo. If unavailable, lunch will be at a restaurant of equivalent character. Time to relax and enjoy regional cuisine paired with Douro wines.
Tips from local experts:
- Notify the operator ahead of time of any dietary restrictions to allow the kitchen to prepare alternatives.
- Order water between wine pairings to cleanse the palate and stay hydrated during tastings.
- Request a seat with a view when you arrive if you prefer a quieter, more scenic table.
Before the lunch boat trip
Approximately 40-minute trip on a traditional Rabelo boat that will take you along the Douro to the anchorage serving the quinta.
Tips from local experts:
- Bring a light windbreaker — it can be breezy on the river even on sunny days.
- Keep motion-sickness medication handy if you are sensitive to small-boat movement.
- Protect phones and cameras from spray; a small dry bag or waterproof sleeve is useful.
Taste wines with local guides
Visit the Seara D’Ordens family estate for a guided tasting. Experience several wines and learn the difference between large and small producers.
Tips from local experts:
- Tastings may include several wines; pace yourself and ask for water between samples.
- If you plan to buy bottles, bring a small cooler bag for transport back to Porto.
- Ask the guide about the estate’s production methods if you enjoy learning technical details.
Return to Porto
Depart Quinta Seara d'Ordens at 18:00 for the drive back to Porto. Estimated arrival in Porto around 19:30.
Tips from local experts:
- Keep personal belongings with you; confirm you have any purchases or samples packed before boarding.
- If you need a drop-off at a specific address in Porto, confirm it with the driver at pickup.
- Expect the vehicle to be air-conditioned; bring a light layer for the evening upon arrival.
