Itinerary
Day 1
Puno → Uros Floating Islands → Amantani. Pickup in Puno historic centre, visit Uros reed islands, cross Lake Titicaca and arrive Amantani for lunch, afternoon at leisure and evening sunset visit to the island temples; dinner and folkloric event with host family.
Pickup: hotels in Puno historic centre
We will pick you up from your hotel within the historic centre of Puno between 07:45 and 08:00. Please be ready in the hotel lobby at least 10 minutes before the pickup window.
Tips from local experts:
- Confirm your exact hotel location with the operator the day before; pickups are only complimentary for addresses inside Puno’s historic centre.
- Wear warm layers — mornings at Lake Titicaca are cold even if the day warms up later.
- Have a small daypack ready with sun protection, ID/passport, and any necessary medication.
Transfer to Muelle (pier) and boarding
Short drive to Puno pier to board the motorboat. Brief stop at the pier where you can buy snacks and bottled water before departure.
Tips from local experts:
- Bring small-denomination Peruvian soles for snacks or a souvenir stamp at the islands.
- Use the restroom at the pier before boarding — facilities on small islands are basic.
- Keep cameras and phones ready; you'll have upper-deck access for photos during departure.
Visit: Uros (floating reed islands)
Boat ride to the Uros floating islands. Local hosts will demonstrate island construction using totora reeds, share Aymara words, and offer handicrafts. Optional short totora boat ride is available on-site (not included).
Tips from local experts:
- Ask permission before photographing people; many islanders are happy to be photographed if you request respectfully.
- Carry small cash (soles) for handicrafts and the optional totora reed boat ride.
- Wear a windproof layer — the boat crossing and islands can be windy and chilly.
Boat transfer: Uros → Amantani (scenic crossing)
Continue by motorboat across Lake Titicaca to Amantani. You may move to the upper deck for panoramic photos of the lake and islands while the guide provides commentary.
Tips from local experts:
- Upper-deck photography is best before noon when the light is easier — bring a hat to prevent glare.
- Stow items securely while on deck; sudden gusts can catch loose belongings.
- Motion-sickness medication is wise if you are prone to seasickness; crossings can be a few hours long.
Lunch with the host family on Amantani
Arrive at the host family's home for a freshly cooked Peruvian lunch served on the island. Advise any dietary preferences before the tour departure.
Tips from local experts:
- Inform the operator of dietary requirements before departure so the host can prepare appropriate options.
- Carry a small gift (optional) if you wish — a simple item from Puno is appreciated but not required.
- Tap water on the islands is not always treated; drink bottled water provided or bring a refillable bottle.
Afternoon at leisure: stroll island streets or rest
Free time after lunch to rest, take a short nap, or explore Amantani’s cobblestone lanes at a relaxed pace.
Tips from local experts:
- Wear comfortable shoes for cobblestone paths and modest slopes on the island.
- Carry sunscreen and a light jacket — weather can change quickly at altitude.
- Respect local private property; stick to public paths and ask before entering local compounds.
Sunset walk to Pachatata & Pachamama (temples)
Guided uphill walk to the island’s two Inca temples (Pachatata and Pachamama) for panoramic views of Lake Titicaca and sunset. Short uphill walk — suitable for reasonably fit guests.
Tips from local experts:
- Bring a headlamp or small torch for the walk back if you expect to return after dark.
- The uphill path can be steep; take your time and use walking poles if you bring them.
- Dress warmly for sunset — temperatures drop quickly after the sun goes down.
Dinner and folkloric musical evening with host family
Return to your host family for dinner. After dinner you may join a local folkloric music and dance event at the community hall; hosts can help you dress in traditional attire.
Tips from local experts:
- If you wish to participate in the folkloric dance, let the host know — they will assist with traditional clothing.
- Be mindful of local customs during music events; ask before photographing children or performers up close.
- Carry a small flashlight for walking between the home and community hall after dark.
Overnight: private room in host family home (Amantani)
Enjoy a private room for the night in a local host family’s house on Amantani island. Breakfast included next morning.
Tips from local experts:
- Room amenities are simple and vary by host; bring a small towel and toiletries just in case.
- Charge electronic devices earlier in the day if needed — charging options on the island can be limited.
- Keep valuables in your daypack during activities; host families typically provide a secure place for belongings.
Day 2
Amantani → Taquile → Puno. Breakfast with host family, ferry to Taquile for cultural visit and shopping, lunch on Taquile (not included), then return to Puno with hotel transfer to the historic centre.
Breakfast with host family
Shared breakfast at the host family’s home before departure. Confirm any special dietary needs in advance.
Tips from local experts:
- Have a light breakfast if you are prone to motion sickness before boarding the morning boat.
- Keep your luggage organized and ready for the morning transfer to avoid delays.
- Ask your host about any local customs you can observe before departing — a warm cultural moment.
Ferry: Amantani → Taquile (morning crossing)
Board the ferry to Taquile island. Scenic crossing with opportunities for deck photos and lake views.
Tips from local experts:
- Morning light is great for photographs from the upper deck — bring a warm layer for wind on deck.
- Keep passport or ID handy; sometimes visitors request souvenir passport stamps at islands.
- Bring small cash (soles) for purchases on Taquile — many vendors prefer cash.
Explore Taquile: textiles, village walk & cultural visit
Guided walk of Taquile island to learn about the renowned textile traditions (knitting by men, weaving by women), community-run visitor model, and local daily life. Time for purchasing handicrafts if desired.
Tips from local experts:
- Respect local customs when handling or inspecting textiles; ask before touching delicate items.
- Bring a lightweight backpack and water for the uphill stone paths on Taquile.
- If you plan to buy textiles, inspect craftsmanship and confirm the item is handmade by the community.
Lunch on Taquile (not included)
Stop for lunch at a local restaurant on Taquile. Lunch on the island is not included in the tour price and is purchased on-site.
Tips from local experts:
- Bring approximately the local currency in small bills for the island restaurants; card facilities may be unavailable.
- Try local preparations served island-style; let the host know if you have allergies.
- Request a seat with views where available — dining areas can be small and communal.
Return boat: Taquile → Puno
Board the boat back to Puno. On arrival at Puno pier our team will meet you and transfer you back to your hotel within the historic centre of Puno.
Tips from local experts:
- Keep your boarding belongings ready and check for personal items before disembarking on Taquile.
- Expect arrival into Puno late afternoon; coordinate any onward travel plans accordingly.
- If you require a hotel drop-off outside Puno historic centre, advise the operator in advance (extra charge may apply).
Drop-off: hotels in Puno historic centre
Transfer from Puno pier back to hotels within the historic centre. Tour ends upon drop-off at your hotel in Puno’s historic centre.
Tips from local experts:
- Have your hotel name and address ready for the drop-off team to ensure correct delivery.
- If you need to be dropped off outside the historic centre, notify the operator before the trip (charges may apply).
- Collect any receipts you may need from the guide if you want a record of services for your stay.
