Meet at Puerto Azul Boutique Resort & Marina — check-in & boarding
Gather at the meeting point for check-in, safety briefing and boarding. Staff confirm names, distribute snorkel gear and review the day’s safety notes. Small personal items and daypacks may be left on the boat under crew supervision.
Tips from local experts:
- Arrive 10–15 minutes early to complete check-in; bring photo ID for verification.
- Wear swimwear under light clothing and bring a small dry bag for valuables; Puerto Azul has private parking.
- If anyone in your group is prone to seasickness, take preventive medication at least 30–45 minutes before boarding.
Boat transfer & marine wildlife watching (Golfo de Nicoya)
Board the private boat and cross the Gulf of Nicoya toward Isla Tortuga. Crew will look for dolphins and marine life during the crossing and provide a short orientation to snorkeling safety before arrival.
Tips from local experts:
- Keep cameras and phones in a secure waterproof pouch during the crossing; crew will advise the best side for dolphin sightings.
- Bring sunglasses and a hat for sun protection on the open deck; reef-safe sunscreen is recommended.
- Store motion-sickness remedies and any necessary medications in an easily accessible pocket before departure.
Isla Tortuga — beach time, snorkeling, monkey walk & lunch
Arrive at Isla Tortuga for approximately five hours on a private beach spot. The schedule on the island includes a one-hour guided snorkeling session (snorkel equipment provided), a short guided walk focusing on spider-monkey spotting, a served lunch with choice of grilled fish or chicken (vegetarian option available), snacks, fruit and traditional Costa Rican coffee, plus free time to swim or relax. After island time, board the boat for the return to the port.
Tips from local experts:
- Bring a towel, quick-dry shirt, reef-safe sunscreen and water shoes for comfortable beach and reef access.
- If you use contact lenses, bring a backup pair of glasses for snorkeling or use daily disposables and bring lens solution.
- Carry a small amount of cash (CRC) if you want to purchase local souvenirs on the island; valuables are best left secured on the boat.
