Itinerary
Day 1
Two schedule options (morning or afternoon). Each option follows the operator's agenda: hotel pickup → Intiñan Museum visit → Pululahua crater visit → local empanada snack → return to hotel. Choose the start time that suits your plans.
Option A — Morning schedule: 09:00 – 12:45 (Private tour)
09:00 — Hotel pick-up (Quito urban area). 09:45 – 10:45 — Visit to the Intiñan (Equator) Museum (interactive exhibits and photo opportunities right on the line). 10:45 – 11:30 — Transfer and visit to Pululahua Geobotanical Reserve (scenic viewpoints into the crater). 11:30 – 11:45 — Local snack: enjoy a freshly made empanada with a view. 11:45 – 12:45 — Return drive to your hotel in Quito.
Tips from local experts:
- For a romantic photo, ask your guide for a short stop at the Mirador before entering the Pululahua valley — the crater looks especially dramatic in the softer morning light.
- At Intiñan, request to try the interactive demonstrations (spinning plates, water flow) together — they make playful couple photos. Bring a light windproof jacket; mornings can be breezy at the equator markers.
- Tell the driver you prefer quieter local vendors for the empanada snack (they can avoid the busiest stalls). If you want a bench with a view, ask for a stop at the main Pululahua viewpoint rather than the lower picnic areas.
Option B — Afternoon schedule: 14:00 – 17:45 (Private tour)
14:00 — Hotel pick-up (Quito urban area). 14:45 – 15:45 — Visit to the Intiñan (Equator) Museum. 15:45 – 16:30 — Transfer and visit to Pululahua Geobotanical Reserve (enjoy late-afternoon views). 16:30 – 16:45 — Local snack: empanada time. 16:45 – 17:45 — Return to your hotel in Quito.
Tips from local experts:
- Afternoon light is flattering for couples — request a longer stop at the Pululahua mirador to enjoy soft, warm tones for portrait photos.
- If you prefer fewer crowds at Intiñan, choose the afternoon start; late afternoons often have smaller groups and better photo light on exhibits.
- Wear comfortable shoes for a short, gentle stroll at the Pululahua viewpoints and bring sunglasses — the sun can still be strong even late in the day at high altitude.
Optional swap: Visit the Middle of the World Monument (Mitad del Mundo) instead of Intiñan
If you prefer the larger monuments and panoramic photo opportunities, choose to visit Ciudad Mitad del Mundo (the large Monument complex) in place of the Intiñan Museum. This option replaces the Intiñan stop and typically adds 10–20 minutes for photos and walking around the monument plaza.
Tips from local experts:
- Choose Mitad del Mundo for dramatic wide-angle photos with the monument — ask to climb the tower for sweeping views (tower access depends on opening hours).
- Pairs: combine a monument photo with a quick coffee at the on-site cafés for a relaxed moment; seating areas near the plaza are great for people-watching.
- Note: Mitad del Mundo is more touristy and larger; if you want a quieter, more intimate experience choose Museo Intiñan instead.
