Itinerary
Day 1

St. Peter's Square — introduction to Vatican City
Short guided stroll around Piazza San Pietro with an overview of the Vatican City State, the Swiss Guard and the Conclave process. Minimal walking and frequent seating available at the square perimeter.
Tips from local experts:
- Carry a government ID (passport) in case of brief security checks near the basilica area.
- There are benches and sheltered areas at the square—take advantage of them for brief rests.
- Dress shoulders and knees covered if you plan a quick interior view of St. Peter's Basilica; otherwise the exterior visit is fully included.
Drive-by: Castel Sant'Angelo
Drive along the Lungotevere to view Castel Sant'Angelo from the vehicle and brief photo stop where traffic and parking allow. The guide will explain its history as Hadrian's tomb and later fortress.
Tips from local experts:
- This is mainly a drive-by stop — keep cameras ready for shots from the bridge or vehicle.
- If traffic permits we will pause briefly for photos; use a small bag for easy mobility when stepping out.
- Be cautious when stepping onto the bridge; maintain an eye on your group and use designated sidewalks.
Piazza Navona — Baroque squares and fountains
Short visit to Piazza Navona to see Bernini's Fountain of the Four Rivers and the lively square. Opportunity for a seated gelato or espresso nearby; walking is on flat pavement.
Tips from local experts:
- Choose cafés with visible indoor seating if you prefer a quieter spot and support short rest breaks.
- Keep a lightweight scarf or hat for sun protection when seated in the open square in spring.
- If you need a restroom, ask your guide for the nearest public facilities or a nearby café with accessible restrooms.
Pantheon — best preserved ancient temple
Visit the Pantheon area for an exterior and short interior viewing if queues permit; the guide will explain its architecture and influence on western buildings.
Tips from local experts:
- The Pantheon floor can be slightly uneven—use comfortable, stable footwear and take care on the doorway step.
- If interior access is crowded, the guide will prioritise a clear exterior explanation to minimise standing time inside.
- There are benches at nearby cafés for a brief sit-down immediately after the visit.
Trevi Fountain — La Dolce Vita photo stop
Brief visit to admire the Trevi Fountain and the tradition of tossing a coin. The guide will recommend the safest spots for photographs and help with brief assistance for those who prefer not to navigate crowds.
Tips from local experts:
- Keep small change ready if you want to toss a coin—use a secure pocket or wrist pouch in the crowds.
- Crowds can be dense; stand close to the edges of the piazza where space is steadier and seating is more available.
- If you'd rather avoid the busiest moments, ask the guide for a quieter vantage point a short walk from the fountain.
View from the Capitoline / hill over the Roman Forum
Short stop at the Capitoline/Campidoglio area to admire the view over the Roman Forum and learn about the civic heart of ancient Rome. Minimal stairs — the guide will choose the most accessible viewpoint.
Tips from local experts:
- The Capitoline area has some steps — request the flatter route from your guide if mobility is a concern.
- Bring sunglasses for the open viewpoint; spring sun can be bright on the terraces.
- Allow the guide to point out specific Forum features from the viewpoint rather than descending into uneven terrain.
Colosseum — external photo stop and return to hotel
Final stop for memorable photos of the Colosseum from outside and a summary of Imperial Rome. After the photo stop the driver will return you to your hotel or a central drop-off point in the city centre.
Tips from local experts:
- The Colosseum area can have uneven paving—use sturdy shoes and keep to paved paths when stepping out of the vehicle.
- If you prefer to remain seated in the vehicle for photos, tell the guide so they can position the car where traffic and visibility permit.
- Confirm your preferred drop-off location with the guide at the start of the tour to ensure a smooth return.
