Itinerary
Day 1
Half-day guided kayak tour. Meet at the Sigló Sea base at Norðurtangi for kit fitting and a short masterclass, then paddle a relaxed loop visiting nearby points of interest before returning to base.
Kayak Masterclass.
On-shore kayak safety briefing, drysuit and PFD fitting, basic paddle and re-entry technique practice before launching from Norðurtangi.
Tips from local experts:
- Meet 15 minutes before the scheduled start at the Sigló Sea base at Norðurtangi to complete check-in and kit fitting.
- Wear warm, quick-drying base layers under the provided drysuit; bring a warm hat for pre- and post-paddle periods.
- Leave phones and non-waterproof valuables in your accommodation or secure them in a waterproof pouch — the guides will confirm storage options.
Evanger Avalanche Ruins.
Paddle toward the shoreline area near Evanger to view the avalanche ruins and hear the guide’s explanation of local geomorphology and past events affecting the settlement.
Tips from local experts:
- Follow the guide’s instructions on approach distance; some shoreline features are fragile and best viewed from a short distance.
- Be prepared for brief directional changes and small currents between sheltered bays — keep a relaxed paddling cadence.
- If you want photos, store cameras/phones in a waterproof case and secure them to the cockpit lanyard when taking pictures.
Skógur Shipwreck.
Continue paddling to the area near the Skógur shipwreck site; the guide will point out the wreck location and discuss local maritime history from the water.
Tips from local experts:
- Keep a safe distance from wreckage and follow the guide’s direction if the group is approaching the shoreline for a closer look.
- Watch your paddle blades when manoeuvring around rocks or tidal shallows; the guide will advise the safest line.
- If sea conditions change, the guide may shorten the stop time — prioritize safety and group instructions.
Herring Women Sculpture.
Approach the town waterfront near Snorragata to view the Herring Women sculpture and hear about Siglufjörður’s herring industry heritage from the guides (viewing may be from kayak or short shoreline approach depending on conditions).
Tips from local experts:
- If conditions allow a short shoreline approach, follow the guide’s directions for safe landing spots near Snorragata; avoid stepping on fragile vegetation.
- The sculpture is located near the town waterfront — use the guide’s local knowledge to spot the best viewing angle from the water.
- Keep noise to a minimum near shore to avoid disturbing wildlife and other visitors in the harbour area.
Back to Base.
Return paddle to Norðurtangi, assist with de-rigging, return equipment and a short debrief with the guides.
Tips from local experts:
- Allow time to dry off and change into warm, dry clothes; bring a towel and a spare layer for after the paddle.
- The guides will help with equipment return — check for personal items in kayak compartments before leaving the launch area.
- Plan a meetup spot at the Sigló Sea base if your group separates after packing up (the base at Norðurtangi is the reference point).
