Meet at the Kaštel Stari waterfront (Obala kralja Tomislava) for check-in and boarding. Activity includes a safety/theory briefing, hands-on sailing practice under skipper supervision, time for a relaxed sail with a basic drink, and return to the meeting quay.

Meet & check in at the Kaštel Stari quay

12:00 – 12:15 • 15m

Arrive at the meeting point on Obala kralja Tomislava, check in with the crew, store small bags on board and board the boat.

Obala kralja Tomislava, 21216 Kaštel Stari, Splitsko-dalmatinska županija, Croatia

Tips from local experts:

  • Arrive 0–5 minutes before the listed start time to complete check-in; the boat departs promptly.
  • Bring ID (passport or national ID) — crews may check identity before boarding.
  • Wear flat, non-marking shoes or clean trainers for safe movement on deck.

Safety briefing & basic sailing theory

12:15 – 12:35 • 20m

Short on-deck briefing covering safety procedures, lifejackets, basic sail trim and roles on board. Skipper explains how participants will rotate through helm and sail-handling tasks.

  • Notify the skipper of any mobility issues or medical conditions before the briefing begins.

Active Sailing

Why this experience

Sailing from Split puts you on the same route that boat traffic has followed for 2,000 years—across open Adriatic, past rocky islands, and into coves where motorboats can't reach. If you choose an active sailing tour, you're not just watching; you're helping trim sails, learning to steer, and understanding how the wind shapes the coastline you see. Most sailors say the moment you turn away from land and feel the boat respond to your movements is when Split stops being a destination and becomes a home base for something bigger.

Before you go

  • Best time: Spring (April-May) and autumn (September-October) for steady winds and calm seas
  • Budget: See Bokun widget for tour pricing; sailing typically includes equipment and instruction
  • Difficulty: Moderate — no prior experience required, but expect physical engagement and balance needed on a moving boat
  • What to bring: Swimsuit, quick-dry clothes, water shoes, sunscreen, light layers for wind
  • Getting there: Meet at Split's waterfront marina
  • Accessibility: Boat boarding requires ability to climb onto a deck and move freely on a moving vessel. Discuss accessibility needs with operator before booking.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need sailing experience? No. Active sailing tours are designed for beginners and built around teaching. The instructor will show you how to handle lines and steer.

How long is the sailing tour? Most active sailing tours run 3–5 hours, depending on wind conditions and how far into the islands you venture.

What's included in the tour? TheNextGuide partners with sailing instructors who provide the boat, instruction, safety gear, and usually a swimming stop. Your booking covers the experience and any provided snacks or refreshments.

What happens if there's no wind? Tour operators monitor conditions and may adjust routes or timing. Most offer rescheduling if conditions are unsuitable, but confirm your operator's policy when booking.

Can I bring my family? Yes—many operators welcome families with older children. Confirm age requirements and comfort level with the operator.
