Itinerary
Day 1
Single-session cooking class (select either Lunch or Evening start). Example schedule shown for the Lunch Class (11:30 start, total duration 2 hours 45 minutes). All session activities take place at the same meeting address in Honjo, Sumida City.
Arrival, check-in & orientation
Meet at the class location, check in, store personal items, and receive aprons and a brief safety/food-allergy check before the session begins.
Tips from local experts:
- Arrive 10 minutes before the listed start time to check in — meeting address: 2-chome-10-6 Honjo, Sumida City, Tokyo 130-0004, Japan (杜の夢).
- Nearest stations: Honjo-Azumabashi Station (Toei Asakusa Line) or Kuramae Station (Toei Oedo / Toei Asakusa area) — allow 8–12 minutes walking time depending on route.
- Aprons are provided; wear comfortable, easy-to-clean clothing and keep phones charged for photos.
Instructor demonstration — sushi techniques & ingredients
Instructor demonstrates rice seasoning, fish/vegetable preparation basics, rolling technique and how to make miso soup and the two side dishes. Time for brief Q&A.
Tips from local experts:
- Pay attention to rice seasoning and rolling technique — photos taken during this segment are useful as visual references for your hands-on work.
- If you have dietary restrictions, remind staff at check-in so the instructor can point out the alternatives during the demo.
- Ask about local ingredient names used in the recipes if you want to recreate dishes back home.
Hands-on cooking — make sushi, roll and two side dishes
Participants prepare sushi rice, assemble and roll sushi, and make two side dishes under instructor supervision. The instructor provides step-by-step guidance so each participant completes their own portions.
Tips from local experts:
- Work with the instructor’s guidance and pace — staff will assist with knife safety and rolling technique as needed.
- If you prefer vegetarian options, confirm again at the start so fish items are substituted correctly.
- Keep small towels or hand wipes handy — a sink or wash station will be available for brief hand cleaning between tasks.
Miso soup, plating and sake tasting
Finish miso soup, plate your dishes, then take part in a guided sake tasting (several small samples) while the instructor explains pairing notes and sake basics.
Tips from local experts:
- Sake tasting includes small samples — if you cannot drink alcohol, notify staff at check-in so non-alcoholic options can be provided.
- Sip slowly and use palate-cleansing water provided between samples — staff will explain the tasting order.
- Listen for pairing suggestions from the instructor that explain how the side dishes complement different sake styles.
Enjoy your meal & class photos
Eat the food you prepared together with the group. Instructor/host will take photos during the class and make them available after the session.
Tips from local experts:
- Take your time eating — this is a social portion of the class intended for photos and conversation with the group.
- If you prefer a quieter seat for eating, request seating during check-in — staff can re-seat you if space permits.
- Photos taken by the host will be shared after class; make arrangements at the end if you want additional group shots.
Certificate presentation, tidy-up & farewell
Receive a certificate with your name in Japanese, final questions answered, return aprons and prepare to depart.
Tips from local experts:
- Certificates include your name in Japanese — confirm the spelling at check-in if you prefer a specific romanization.
- Return aprons and any borrowed items before leaving to keep the session on schedule for the next group.
- Allow a few extra minutes after the end time if you plan to ask follow-up questions or request additional photos.
