Itinerary
Day 1
Half-day private snorkeling experience tailored for families with kids (8+). Meet at Clovelly, fit gear, snorkel with a private guide in the Bronte–Coogee Aquatic Reserve, then a short transfer to Coogee for lunch and beach time.
Meet at Clovelly Free Car Park — check-in & gear fitting
Arrive at the Clovelly Free Car Park (in front of Clovelly Surf Life Saving Club). Your guide will review the day's plan, talk through safety, and help fit wetsuits, masks, fins, floatation aids and (if requested) weight belts. Child wetsuits and flotation support are available to boost confidence.
Tips from local experts:
- Arrive 10–15 minutes early to unload kids and change into swimwear — there are public steps and a change area near the surf club but limited flat space for strollers.
- Bring a labeled dry bag or zip-lock for phones/keys; guide will store valuables while you snorkel.
- If your child uses a booster seat or has a special swim vest, tell the guide in advance — the operator carries child-sized wetsuits and extra flotation but appreciates advance notice for sizing.
Private family snorkel — Bronte–Coogee Aquatic Reserve (guided)
Guided snorkeling session in the calm rocky reef areas off Clovelly inside the Bronte–Coogee Aquatic Reserve. The guide will lead a family-friendly route to spot blue gropers, rays and wrasse, adapt pace for kids, and take underwater photos for you to keep.
Tips from local experts:
- Minimum age is 8 — make sure children have basic swimming confidence; the guide provides flotation aids for less confident swimmers.
- Apply biodegradable reef-safe sunscreen before you enter the water (no sprays while wetsuits are on); bring a water bottle and a light snack for after the session.
- Clovelly's entry is a small bay with ladder access — it’s shallow near the rocks but wear fins when entering/exiting; if you have mobility concerns, let the guide position you near the shallower areas.
Transfer — short coastal/road transfer to Coogee (scenic or shortcut)
After drying off and packing gear, head to nearby Coogee for lunch. Families can choose the scenic (coastal) route — note a few steps and stair sections — or take a short taxi/ride-share for a stroller-friendly option.
Tips from local experts:
- The direct coastal route includes some stairs and rocky sections — not ideal for strollers. If you have a stroller or very young children, take a 6–8 minute taxi/ride-share instead.
- If walking, stop at Bronte Park playground (small detour) for toddlers to burn energy and use public restrooms before lunch.
- Allow 20–30 minutes for the transfer to include a slow stroll and quick restroom/ice-cream stop; local buses run but a taxi is simplest with a family and gear.
Family lunch at Coogee Pavilion (kids-friendly dining)
Relaxed family lunch at Coogee Pavilion — large space, kids’ menu options, high chairs, and roomy seating. Great spot to warm up, see the beachfront, and let kids snack while parents enjoy a sit-down meal.
Tips from local experts:
- Book a table in advance if possible (weekends fill quickly); ask for a ground-floor or easy-access table if you have a stroller or tired kids.
- Coogee Pavilion is allergy-aware and typically offers a kids' menu and high chairs — tell staff about allergies when ordering.
- There’s a safe rooftop playground area (seasonal) and public restrooms nearby — perfect for a post-meal run-around while you finish your coffee.
Post-lunch beach play & ice cream — Coogee Beach
Free play time on Coogee Beach. Gentle waves, lifeguards on duty (seasonal), and sand for building castles — a calm finish to your outing. Grab an ice cream from a café and soak up a little more beach time before heading home.
Tips from local experts:
- Lifeguards are on duty most of the year; always keep a close eye on children when they’re near the water even in shallow zones.
- There are public showers and change rooms at Coogee — a quick rinse removes sand before the drive home.
- If your family prefers shade, bring a small pop-up shade or use the grassy area behind the beach for snacks and naps; it’s stroller-friendly and flat.
