Itinerary
Day 1
Full-day Romantic North-Coast tour from Tallinn to Lahemaa National Park (approx. 8 hours). Start at Niguliste (Tallinn old town) and visit Viru Bog, Altja fisherman's village, Vihula Manor, Palmse Manor and Jägala Waterfall. Includes private transport, guide and picnic.
Drive into Lahemaa National Park (private transfer)
Scenic private drive from Tallinn into Lahemaa. Enjoy coastal and countryside views as your guide points out highlights and history of the coast and manors en route.
Tips from local experts:
- Sit on the left side of the minibus for the best coastal views on the approach (guide will advise depending on route).
- Use this time to ask your guide about local romantic traditions or hidden photo spots to visit later.
- There are short restroom stops en route if needed — bring hand sanitizer and a light scarf for wind on open stretches.
Transfer to Altja fisherman's village (coastline approach)
Short coastal drive to Altja — a tiny, historic fisherman's village with wooden boathouses and tranquil bays. A lovely place for hand-in-hand seaside strolls.
Tips from local experts:
- Ask the driver to pause briefly at viewpoint pullouts for private cliffside photos if you want a dramatic backdrop.
- Keep a light windbreaker handy — sea breezes are refreshing but can be cool even in June.
- If you prefer a quieter stop, request a short detour to a less-trafficked shoreline nearby — guides can often oblige.
Short transfer to Vihula Manor (lunch / optional spa break)
Quick drive to Vihula Manor — a romantic manor-house estate with garden terraces, a cosy lobby bar and spa facilities. Ideal spot for a relaxed lunch or coffee.
Tips from local experts:
- If you'd like a quieter table with a garden view, let the guide reserve ahead (this can be pre-arranged as an add-on).
- Vihula offers short spa treatments; a couples' massage is an elegant upgrade to relax mid-day (book in advance).
- Try the house rhubarb or berry drink for a local flavor — a refreshing partner to light manor dishes.
Drive toward Jägala Waterfall — short scenic transfer back
Head back toward Tallinn with a scheduled stop at Jägala Waterfall — a dramatic natural break and an atmospheric spot for final photos.
Tips from local experts:
- If you want a quieter waterfall moment, ask the guide to time the stop to avoid bus arrivals; early evening or mid-afternoon often quieter in June.
- Bring a light waterproof layer if you plan to step close to the fall — mist can be refreshing and romantic for a quick selfie.
- There is a short, easy path to the viewpoint — comfortable shoes are recommended for the brief walk.
Return transfer to Tallinn — drop-off
Comfortable drive back to central Tallinn. The guide will drop you off near the original meeting point or at a requested central Tallinn location.
Tips from local experts:
- If you'd like a special end to the day (e.g., a central rooftop cocktail or a dinner recommendation), ask your guide — they can suggest a romantic Tallinn spot.
- Use the drive back to relax; the minibus is comfortable and the guide can point out sunset vantage spots if you'd like to extend the day privately.
- Have the guide confirm the exact drop-off location before arrival so you can plan an evening stroll in Tallinn's old town.

Romantic North-Coast Day Trip to Lahemaa — Picnic, Manors & Coast
Why this experience
An hour north of Tallinn, Lahemaa National Park opens into the kind of stillness that city itineraries can't replicate — bog boardwalks stretching over copper-toned water, a fisherman's village where the only sound is waves against wooden boats, and manor houses set in birch-lined parkland. A private minibus and English-speaking guide handle all the logistics, so the day feels like a slow, curated wander through Estonia's wildest coastline.
The morning starts with a picnic on the Viru bog boardwalk using locally sourced produce, followed by a stroll through the quiet coastal village of Altja. Lunch pauses at the elegant Vihula Manor, a spa and country estate with gardens designed for lingering. The afternoon explores the baroque Palmse Manor before a final stop at the dramatic Jägala Waterfall on the return to Tallinn. Every stop is paced for photos, conversation and the kind of shared quiet that couples remember.
Before you go
- Best time: Late spring through early autumn, when the bog boardwalks are dry, wildflowers line the coastal paths, and daylight runs long enough for an unhurried pace. Autumn foliage turns the manor grounds golden.
- Getting there: Private minibus picks up and drops off at your Tallinn accommodation. No self-driving needed. The round trip covers roughly 200 km with multiple stops.
- Good to know: Wear comfortable walking shoes — the bog boardwalk is wooden planks, and Altja paths are uneven coastal gravel. Bring a light layer even in summer; the coast is breezy. The picnic is included, but Vihula Manor offers additional refreshments if you want a longer pause.
