Return to Tbilisi at the end of the day; total tour time ~12 hours.

Jinvali Water Reservoir

08:40 – 09:10 • 30m

Visit the Jinvali Water Reservoir (built 1985) that supplies Tbilisi with drinking water. Short photo and viewpoint stop to enjoy the reservoir and surrounding foothills.

Jinvali Reservoir, Georgia

Tips from local experts:

  • Wear a light windbreaker—winds on the reservoir can be cool even in late summer.
  • Bring a camera with a polarizing filter or use the smartphone HDR setting to reduce glare on the water.
  • There are limited facilities at this viewpoint; use restrooms in Tbilisi before departure.

Ananuri Castle Complex

09:35 – 10:15 • 40m

Guided visit of the Ananuri Fortress complex (churches, bell tower and towers) with river and reservoir views. Time for photos and a short walk around the site.

Ananuri, Georgia

Tips from local experts:

  • Wear comfortable shoes—paths in the complex include uneven stone surfaces and steps.
  • Have some small change available if you wish to buy a quick refreshment from local stalls near the site.
  • Follow the guide’s route to see both churches and the best viewpoints of the Aragvi River and reservoir.

Black and White Aragvi (Pasanauri)

11:05 – 11:25 • 20m

Stop at the confluence area near Pasanauri to see where the Black and White Aragvi rivers meet and hear the local legend about their origins.

Pasanauri, Georgia

Tips from local experts:

  • This stop is short—keep cameras ready for river confluence shots and quick village views.
  • Footing near the rivers can be slippery; wear shoes with grip.
  • Pasanauri is known for local khinkali—if you want a later snack, note this stop for souvenir photos and quick local food options.

Gergeti Holy Trinity Church (Gergeti)

12:40 – 13:20 • 40m

Visit Gergeti Holy Trinity Church (14th century) for sweeping views of Mount Kazbek. In winter months an off-road vehicle is used from Stepantsminda to the church; in good weather the route includes a short uphill walk.

Gergeti Trinity Church, Stepantsminda, Georgia

Tips from local experts:

  • If you plan to walk up from Stepantsminda, bring sturdy shoes and sun protection; the walk is uphill and can be exposed.
  • There is limited shelter at the church—carry a light layer for changing mountain conditions.
  • Respect the site: modest clothing and quiet behaviour inside the church are appreciated.

Dariali Monastery Complex

13:45 – 14:10 • 25m

Short visit to the Dariali Monastery complex with views into Dariali Gorge and the Khde river near the Georgia–Russia border.

Dariali, Georgia

Tips from local experts:

  • The monastery sits at higher elevation—carry a light jacket as temperatures can be cooler in the gorge.
  • Watch your step near viewpoints; guardrails are present but paths can be narrow.
  • Mobile signal may be weak in the gorge—prepare any necessary photos or calls earlier.

Hike to Gveleti Waterfalls

14:25 – 15:55 • 1h 30m

Easy 4 km roundtrip hike to small and big Gveleti waterfalls. Expect good mountain scenery and a narrow path leading into the canyon. Total hike time about 1.5 hours.

Gveleti / Tsdo area, Georgia

Tips from local experts:

  • Wear sturdy walking shoes and bring water; trail includes rocky sections and short climbs.
  • Bring insect repellent in warmer months and a light rain layer—weather can change quickly in mountain canyons.
  • Keep to the marked trail and follow the guide; some viewpoints have steep drops without barriers.

Lunch in Stepantsminda (Kazbegi)

16:05 – 16:45 • 40m

Lunch stop in Stepantsminda. If booked with the 'Tour with Lunch' option you will have a family-style traditional mountain meal; standard option stops at a local restaurant where you can order from the menu.

Stepantsminda, Georgia

Tips from local experts:

  • If you have dietary restrictions, tell the guide before lunch so hosts or restaurant can accommodate.
  • Cash and card availability varies—have some local currency ready for small purchases or tips.
  • Try local mountain specialties (khinkali, local cheese) if you have space—ask for milder spice levels if preferred.

Village Sno

17:05 – 17:20 • 15m

Short walk through the village of Sno to view giant portrait sculptures, a medieval watch tower and learn local history; Sno is the home village of the Georgian Patriarch.

Sno, Kazbegi municipality, Georgia

Tips from local experts:

  • Village paths can be uneven—low-impact walking shoes are recommended.
  • Be respectful around private homes; ask the guide before photographing individuals.
  • Carry small local currency if you wish to purchase simple souvenirs from villagers.

Sioni Basilica of Khevi (village of Sioni)

17:30 – 17:50 • 20m

Visit the 9th–10th century three-nave Sioni basilica and adjacent pyramidal watchtower on a cliff edge, historically used for surveillance and signal smoke.

Sioni, Georgia

Tips from local experts:

  • The basilica sits on a cliff edge—stay within guided viewing areas for safety.
  • Wear modest clothing for visiting a religious site and remove hats inside if entering the church.
  • Photography is allowed; early evening light works well for shots of the watchtower silhouette.

Jvari Pass Travertine Natural Monument

18:30 – 18:50 • 20m

Short stop at Jvari Pass travertine formations (Kazbegi Protected Areas) at high elevation for a close-up look at the carbonate terraces and high-mountain landscape.

Jvari Pass (Almasiani area), Georgia

Tips from local experts:

  • At high elevation carry a warm layer—temperatures drop quickly at the pass.
  • The travertine is fragile—avoid walking off marked viewpoints to protect the formations.
  • Altitude may affect breathing for some; move slowly and notify the guide if you feel unwell.

Russia–Georgia Friendship Monument (Panorama Gudauri)

19:05 – 19:25 • 20m

Panoramic stop at the Russia–Georgia Friendship Monument to enjoy wide views of the surrounding Caucasus ridges and to review the route back along the Georgian Military Road.

Gudauri, Georgia

Tips from local experts:

  • This viewpoint is exposed—have a windproof jacket and secure loose items for photos.
  • There is limited shelter; if weather turns, the guide will adjust timing to ensure safety.
  • If you want a quick hot drink, small vendors or cafés are often available at the Gudauri area (seasonal).
