Itinerary
Day 1
Private daytrip across the Cap Bon peninsula. Pickup from your hotel or residence in Tunis; combination of short guided visits and scenic transfers. Total duration ~7 h 30 min.
Pickup and transfer from Tunis
Private pickup from your hotel, residence or agreed meeting point in Tunis and drive toward the Cap Bon peninsula. Use this time for a short briefing with your guide about the day's route and practical points.
Tips from local experts:
- Be ready in the hotel lobby 5–10 minutes before pickup time; inform the operator of any changes to your pickup address in advance.
- Bring a small daypack for water, sun protection and any personal items you'll need during short walks and the lunch stop.
- If you prefer a specific pickup point in Tunis (hotel entrance, main square), confirm it when you book to ensure a punctual start.
Fortress of Kelibia (guided visit)
Guided visit to the fortress of Kélibia, located on a headland with views over the eastern and western Mediterranean basins. Short walk around the fortifications and viewpoint stops for photos.
Tips from local experts:
- Wear comfortable, sturdy shoes — some surfaces at the fortress are uneven and include stone steps.
- Bring a light windbreaker; the headland is exposed and can be breezy even on warm days — ideal for couple photos.
- There is limited shade at the fort; bring sunscreen and a hat during sunny months.
Transfer to Kerkouane (short drive)
Scenic coastal transfer from Kélibia to the nearby archaeological site of Kerkouane. Short briefing en route about the Punic town you'll visit.
Tips from local experts:
- Keep cameras ready; there are coastal viewpoints on the short drive between Kélibia and Kerkouane.
- If you need to use the restroom, ask the guide before leaving the vehicle—facilities near archaeological sites may be limited.
- Carry any small personal items you brought to the fortress; the vehicle will be accessible at each stop.
The Archaeological Unesco-listed site of Kerkouan (guided visit)
Guided tour of the Punic seaside town of Kerkouane, destroyed and abandoned in 256 BC. The guide explains the site's layout, mosaics, and daily life of its former inhabitants.
Tips from local experts:
- Sites are largely outdoors with limited shade; bring water and wear sunscreen during warmer months.
- The terrain is uneven and includes short walking sections; consider walking sticks if you prefer extra support.
- Respect signage and fenced-off areas to help preserve the archaeological remains.
Transfer to Echraf (drive)
Short drive north along the Cap Bon interior toward Echraf to visit the region's famous millennial olive tree.
Tips from local experts:
- Use this short transfer to stretch and prepare for a brief outdoor stop at the olive tree.
- If you have dietary requirements for lunch, remind the guide now so they can pass any requests on at the restaurant stop.
- Carry local currency if you'd like to purchase small souvenirs; some rural stops may not accept cards.
Echraf Millennial olive tree (short visit)
Visit to one of the oldest olive trees in the Mediterranean region — an opportunity for photos and a short walk among local countryside.
Tips from local experts:
- Visits are typically brief; allow 20–30 minutes for photos and a short walk around the tree.
- Watch your step near the tree base — roots and uneven ground are common at ancient trees.
- This is an outdoor rural stop with limited facilities; use the restroom at the vehicle or next restaurant stop if needed.
Transfer to La Daurade (Houaria cliffs) for lunch
Drive to the Houaria cliffs area where La Daurade restaurant is located overlooking the Zembra archipelago. Time allocated for arrival and ordering before lunch.
Tips from local experts:
- Lunch is not included in the tour price; La Daurade is the suggested stop as per the activity — check the day's menu for Mediterranean options.
- If you have strong dietary restrictions, inform the guide before arrival so the restaurant can be alerted where possible.
- Expect cliffside winds; bring a light layer if you plan to sit on outdoor terraces for views.
Lunch at La Daurade (not included)
Relaxed lunch with sea views at the Houaria cliffs. Menu focused on Mediterranean dishes; couples can enjoy the coastal panorama before the afternoon visit.
Tips from local experts:
- Allow around 60 minutes for lunch to enjoy the view without rushing; the tour schedule includes this time.
- Ask for a table with a sea view if available — these are often limited during peak times.
- Bring cash for small bills; some local restaurants accept cards but smaller rural venues may prefer cash.
Punic Caves of Houaria (guided visit)
Visit to the Punic / ancient quarry caves near Houaria where stones for Carthage were once extracted. Guided walk through the caves and surrounding cliffside area.
Tips from local experts:
- Wear closed-toe shoes with good grip; cave floors and quarry steps can be slippery or uneven.
- Carry a small torch or use your phone torch during darker sections if needed — the guide will lead the group.
- Be mindful of head clearance in lower sections and follow the guide's route for safety.
Return transfer to pickup/drop-off point
Drive back to your original pickup point in Tunis or the agreed drop-off location. Brief debrief with your guide and end of services.
Tips from local experts:
- Allow a few minutes to collect personal items from the vehicle before leaving; ask the guide if you need help with luggage.
- If you'd like to extend the drop-off within the city, notify the guide at the start of the tour so routing can be planned.
- Tip the guide and driver according to your satisfaction; local customs vary, so ask the guide if you are unsure.
