Itinerary

Day 1

Meet in San Juan and travel together to Vega Baja for cave exploration, a swim at Charco Azul, and a local lunch in Dorado before returning to San Juan.

Pick up & Welcome

08:30 – 09:15 • 45m

Meet your guide at the designated meeting point in San Juan for a quick safety briefing, equipment distribution (life vests), and departure. During the drive the guide will share context about Puerto Rico’s karst landscape and Taíno heritage en route to Vega Baja.

Tips from local experts:

  • Arrive 10 minutes early at the meeting point (FX32+3GG, calle park Boulevard) so the group can depart on time.
  • Bring your booking confirmation or ID on your phone for check-in; vehicles have limited space for bags.
  • Wear quick-dry clothing and footwear you can hike and get wet in — guides will provide life vests when you arrive.

Arenales Caves

09:15 – 11:00 • 1h 45m

Guided exploration of the Arenales cave system and canyon walls. Walk between limestone formations, enter cavern passages, and where conditions allow, wade or swim short sections of underground river while your guide points out geological features and any visible Taíno petroglyph sites.

Tips from local experts:

  • Keep belongings in a small dry bag; phones and cameras can get splashed during cave swims — consider a waterproof case.
  • Stick with the guide at all times and follow instructions for moving through wet, slippery rock surfaces.
  • If you wear glasses, secure them with a strap; the group pace is active but allows photo stops for the group.

Charco Azul

11:00 – 11:50 • 50m

Relax and swim in the clear turquoise pool formed in the cavern area. Time here includes optional cliff-jumping from low ledges where it is safe and permitted, plus short breaks to enjoy the setting before heading for lunch.

Tips from local experts:

  • Only jump from marked, guide-approved spots — water depth can vary; ask the guide before attempting any jumps.
  • Bring a towel and a change of clothes in a compact dry bag for the return drive.
  • There is limited shade at the pool; apply reef-safe sunscreen before arrival and reapply after swimming.

Lunch Break

11:50 – 12:50 • 1h

Drive to a nearby Dorado chinchorro (local roadside restaurant) to enjoy Puerto Rican dishes and relax after the morning activities. Time here allows a leisurely meal and restroom use before the return to San Juan.

Dorado, 00646, Puerto Rico

Tips from local experts:

  • Bring cash for food; many small local eateries (chinchorros) prefer cash payments.
  • Inform the guide of any food allergies before ordering so they can help choose suitable menu items.
  • Typical chinchorro meals are casual—expect bench seating and quick service suited to groups.

Drop-Off

12:50 – 13:30 • 40m

Return drive to the San Juan meeting point for drop-off. Guides will recap highlights, share any photos taken from group devices, and confirm everyone has their belongings.

Tips from local experts:

  • Keep small personal items in your carry bag during the return — drivers will confirm lost-and-found at drop-off.
  • If you want group photos or short clips, ask the guide before the return so they can assist with timing.
  • Allow for a flexible return time of +/- 15 minutes depending on traffic; the guide will aim to return within the scheduled window.
