Itinerary
Day 1
A family-paced day in the Dolomites with scenic drives, short walks, relaxed lunch and photo stops. Minimum age 4. Dress in layers and pack snacks/fluids for kids; toilets available at main stops.
Meet & Bus boarding — Tronchetto (Isola Nuova) — Eddy Fast Food / Bus parking
Meet the guide and board the coach. Meeting point is the Tronchetto bus parking area in front of Eddy Fast Food / Parcheggio bus turistici at Isola del Tronchetto. Please arrive 10–15 minutes early to load luggage and secure stroller space.
Tips from local experts:
- Stroller storage: foldable strollers are best — confirm space with the guide when you board.
- Toilets & snacks: use facilities at the Tronchetto terminal before departure; bring small snacks for kids to eat on the bus.
- Sun/sea to mountain change: bring a light jacket — mornings can be cooler on the drive out of Venice.
Scenic drive: Venice → Cortina d'Ampezzo (coach)
Comfortable coach transfer through Venetian plain toward the Dolomites. Short comfort stop en route if needed (driver’s discretion). Relaxable time on board for kids to nap or watch the mountain approach.
Tips from local experts:
- Motion-sickness: sit in the front half of the coach if anyone tends to travel-sickness; keep fluids and light snacks handy.
- Rest stop basics: expect a short comfort break about halfway — use it for restroom and leg stretches for children.
- Seat belts & supervision: children should remain buckled when seated — the guide will advise on any stops.
Visit — Cortina d'Ampezzo: Corso Italia pedestrian area & short family walk
Arrive in Cortina, the 'Queen of the Dolomites'. Short, stroller-accessible walk along Corso Italia with time for gelato, bathroom breaks and family photos. The guide will point out easy viewpoints and safe walking routes.
Tips from local experts:
- Stroller note: Corso Italia is mostly pedestrian and flat — good for strollers but watch cobbles in some spots.
- Kid-friendly snacks: many cafés offer high chairs and basic kids’ options; try a gelato for a quick treat.
- Restrooms & shade: public restrooms are available near the pedestrian area — use these before continuing to higher-altitude stops.
Drive — Cortina → Passo Tre Croci → Lake Misurina
Short scenic drive over Passo Tre Croci with mountain-view windows. Coach drops you near the lakeshore for the Misurina stop.
Tips from local experts:
- Window seats: sit on the right side toward Misurina for better mountain views during this stretch.
- Altitude change: temperatures drop quickly — dress kids in layers and keep a lightweight windbreaker handy.
- Quick restroom tip: fewer facilities on the pass — use Cortina toilets before departure.
Lunch & Lake Misurina family walk — free time for photos and lakeside restaurants
Longer stop at Lake Misurina: walk the flat lakeshore path (stroller-friendly), have lunch at a lakeside restaurant (choose from several family-friendly options), and enjoy views of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo.
Tips from local experts:
- Restaurant choices: many lakefront restaurants offer kids' menu items — ask the guide for a recommended table with space for strollers.
- Boat & chairlift options (May–Sep): boat rentals and the Col de Varda chairlift may be available — check minimum ages and supervise children closely.
- Weather & sunscreen: even in summer UV at altitude is strong — bring sunscreen and sun hats for kids during lakeside time.
Optional short experience — Col de Varda viewpoint or lakeside boat (seasonal/extra)
Optional chairlift to the Col de Varda viewpoint or a quick rental boat on the lake (seasonal, extra cost). Family-friendly but check age/height rules and weather before booking the extra on the spot.
Tips from local experts:
- Age & safety: chairlift and boats have minimum ages and require parental supervision — confirm with staff before boarding.
- Booking on the day: lines can form; go early in your Misurina stop to reserve a short slot if you plan to do it.
- Carry essentials: small backpack with water, wipes and a light jacket is handy for the higher viewpoint where winds can be strong.
Drive — Misurina → Lake Auronzo (Auronzo di Cadore)
Short scenic transfer to Lake Auronzo. Coach drops you at the dam area for the classic photo opportunity; short supervised walk on the dam is possible.
Tips from local experts:
- Dam walk safety: the dam walkway can be exposed — keep children close and use stroller only where indicated safe.
- Comfort break: use this short stop for another restroom break; facilities are limited so plan accordingly.
- Photo timing: late-afternoon often gives softer light on the water — good for family pictures.
Photo stop & short walk — Lake Auronzo dam
Walk on the dam and take family photos; sometimes you can see the water gates — short flat walk suitable for strollers in sections.
Tips from local experts:
- Watch children near edges: parts of the dam are unfenced — keep a tight hold of young kids during the walk.
- Limited shade: bring hats and water in July; there is limited shade on the dam itself.
- Snack and rest: this is a good moment for a 10–15 min snack break before the return journey.
Return drive — Auronzo → Venice (Tronchetto)
Coach transfer back to Venice. Relax on the bus; expected arrival back at Tronchetto in the early evening.
Tips from local experts:
- Nap time: the return ride is a good window for kids to nap — bring a small travel pillow or blanket.
- Dinner options: consider a light dinner back in Venice — your guide can advise family-friendly spots near Tronchetto or on the Vaporetto route.
- Collect belongings: before disembarking at Tronchetto, double-check strollers, jackets and any purchases left on the coach.
Drop-off — Tronchetto (Isola Nuova) — End of tour
Return to the original meeting point at Tronchetto. Tour concludes after safe disembarkation and farewells.
Tips from local experts:
- Vaporetto connections: if you’re heading into central Venice, the guide can point you to the nearest vaporetto stop (Tronchetto → Piazzale Roma / Fondamente Nove).
- Collect receipts & contact: keep the guide’s contact details in case you misplaced anything or need help with onward connections.
- Stretch after journey: allow a few minutes to stretch legs and check children’s shoes before boarding your next transport.
